Does anyone understand the new search engine stuff. I appears to me that your auctions are in or out of the search engine base on DSR. I have no DSR because no one has give me any and I don’t give any to anyone else. I think it’s bogus. So if I have none, am I out of the loop? I can’t make any sense out of this at all.

I just read another post that gave this URL for DSR http://www.dsrwatch.com/
And do tell, I do have DSRs Not that great either. So
Criteria Information Rating Information Rating tier Information Number of ratings Information
Item as described 4.8 Middle 50% 4
Communication 4.5 Bottom 10-25% 4
Shipping time 4.8 Middle 50% 4
Shipping and handling charges 4.0 Bottom 10% 4
According to this I have an unacceptable rating in ebay's eyes when it comes to S & H yet I charge actual shipping plus about a dollar for materials, gas, time etc.

So My DSRs are not showing up yet because I have received less that 10 since the system started. That would be because I just listed this month for the first time in three years. So I had 9 auction sales in the past two weeks and these folks rated me with four stars out of five for shipping charges even though in 50 % of the cases, I lost money on shipping and the other 50 % were within a dollar of actual shipping, an amount I might add would certainly be reasonable for materials, gas, and handling.
I contend like many have said that if the average person is asked to rate anyone on a scale of 1 - 5 most people will perceive 5 as perfect, 4 above average, 3 average which would be acceptable in their eyes. In most peoples eyes, nobody's perfect so 4 would be the highest they would be willing to give and even if they give you a 3 they would think they were giving you a good mark.
This is just stupid.
I was gearing up to start selling again and even thinking of opening a store but I have lost the spirit.

I might be obsessing here but I would like other's opinion. I know that most of these changes are not in effect yet but having been out of the loop for three years I am at a loss to know how or if I should proceed.
I am not working at a real job, semi retired, and in need of extra income for bills so was in the process of getting back on Ebay. Then all this hit the fan.
As the title of the thread mentions, I am wondering if and why I will be "punished" for having ratings of 4. How much do you think it will really matter.
The statement that gets my goat is:
"* Decrease exposure for sellers with low customer satisfaction on Shipping & Handling DSRs."
From what I can determine, for the most part, you have to have fives in these two areas or you are not in the search engine. Why would Ebay want to do this? There is no way I can get fives on how fast or slow the post office is. My shipping charges so far have been totally reasonable for the market, basically exact charge within a dollar either way and very similar to what other people are charging for the same items.
People with Free shipping don't get all fives so this seems to be to be totally unfair as I read it.

Hiker,
I'm in the same boat as a P-t seller. I was thinking of ramping up on eBay and selling off some stuff. I doubt if I will ever have enough sales to make a blip on the this new DSR. I figure DSR is focusing on sellers that that do some big number of dollars in sales.
As a buyer I think the DSR sys is dumb and I not going to participate.
As I proceed in maybe gearing up sales, my thought is just to ignore the FB DSR crap and do my thing. If on a weekly basis I make a resonable profit beyond listing & FVF fees I'll be happy. If not I start hauling stuff to the flea market.

I think it is going to depend on what you are selling. I would also like to encourage Vendio-ians to buy from each other and when we do, give great service and give each other 5's.
I've bought from several people on this board: postcards to ashtrays and always left 5's. Maybe we need a daily thread on this forum for: Good buys. Then if we see anything we like we buy from each other and after receiving great service, leave great feedback, including 5's.
Trust me if they open feedback to letting buyers feedback count multiple times (especially for stars) you are going to see some big-time feedback manipulation.

1 cent auctions for e-books. Free shipping. Five stars across the board.
I like it. Trouble is, it might trigger fraud alerts. We know that for a long while some less-than-scrupulous people were doing this to build feedback for their disposable selling IDs.
