I am just curious, how would you take this. I have several people who bid on my auction, and then, about 12 hours before the end of the auction, while they are still the only bidders, they bid on the auction again. So if the auction started at $5, there are 2 bids showing for $5.

This clearly sends the message to other bidders that they are serious about the item and in my mind works to discourage other people from bidding. I am not sure there is anything I can do about this besides bar the people who use this from bidding in the first place.

Any thoughts?

Yes, it happens to me too. I have one listed right now, in fact.

I also believe it is to discourage others. Sometimes. It may just be someone really wants the item and is upping their original proxy.

I would never bar such a bidder. It may be annoying but it's not illegal and throwing away a bidder just because I am annoyed seems pointless.

Who knows, it may even attract others who don't look at the history and see it as two different bidders and think the item is more desirable as a result.

Pardon me, but are you crazy?

When a sole bidder bids twice, that more likely than not means they are UPPING their proxy bid the second time.

Which means that your sole bidder wants to make sure s/he is still on top if another bid comes in.

I do not believe that most buyers look at the bid history page if the current bid is $5. I only look at it if there is a LOT of bidding.

Bar these people? You should be buying them a latte.

eBay changes mean fewer choices for buyers. Here's why.

Ebay also helps out by sending little notices, you can still be outbid! You might want to up your bid - or something to that effect..

Just be happy you are getting bids. I have some that do the same thing. I think they do it because they see the item so they put in the minimum bid to make it easy to find. Then sometime before it goes off they come back and put in the maximum they will bid.

I don't do it because a dishonest seller might have someone bid the item up a little figuring I want the item pretty bad. I really think it is probably sellers that look at this and not bidders.

it's the new(er) ONE CLICK BID thing happening.

sometimes they like to just push that little button to see what happens.

sometimes they like to just up their proxy.

I've always looked at it as the bidder really wants it and up their bid.
I welcome this because like others have stated most bidders won't take the time to look at the history. They will just assume two bidders want it.

I, too, welcome such bids! On the big auction search page, items with bids are more likely to be checked out by potential buyers, I think.

I have this happen quite frequently and have yet to be burned by this.

Fluffy said it a bit strong, but she is right.

My DH & I call them 'Insurance bids' that the Buyer puts in because they really want the item. It doesn't always work to scare other Buyers away.

Last evening we had some great sales and on one of the auctions the original bidder put in 3 bids...I guess they kept upping their max amount.
In the final 10 seconds they were outbid by another Buyer. It was super for us because the price shot way up!

That seems to happen frequently on our auctions...we love it!

I say we should buy them TWO lattes!
