Not mine, but the son of my best friend. The computer was a Christmas Present & it's a 2400.00 MAC. He had a glass of water on his night table, knocked it off & the water poured all over it & it no longer works. It's insured, but the insurance does not cover accidents.
What's chances it can be dried out & work again or is it gone forever. They tried a hair dryer with no luck. When the water hit there was a sizzling sound.
Anyone have this experience & could you get it going again.

Needless to say this kid is heartbroken.

Oh the poor kid. I feel for him.

I found some tips on this page. It looks like time will tell.

"Spilled water, but now it works... This is what you should do. Turn it off. Remove it from wall power. Remove the battery. Use a hairdryer on the low or just blowing cool air setting to help evaporate any water that might be inside the case, keyboard or battery.

My daughter recently spilled coca-cola on her ipod nano. She wiped it off and everything worked except you couldn't turn it off.

This is what I did to fix it:

Discharged the battery, and turn it on over and over again until it would no longer even try to come on.

Sprayed alcohol into it.

Wiped it off and took a hairdryer to it using the low heat setting. Did not get it hot.

Three days later I charged it and it now works to perfection.

Good Luck."

Mac, not MAC. If the machine was on when the water hit it it's unlikely the dryout steps will work, the logic board may be shorted out, especially if he tried to start or restart it with moisture still in it. What about homeowner's insurance? It's a possibility....

The 'sizzling sound" part does not sound good at all.

profe, Homw owners, good idea will call them tomorow with the suggestion.

Yeah, the sizzle didn't sound too good to me either. Sorry, didn't know Mac from MAC, never had one. All I know about this one was what it cost & I have no idea why it was so expensive. Yes the machine was on when the H2O hit.

I will also check & see if there are any changes, haven't heard anything & I hoping for good news.
Will let you know the outcome.
Your suggestions are really appreciated, good ones too.

On the link that zippy posted it said to turn the computer off right away, remove the battery & let it dry out completely.

Too bad they didn't know this in time, it was left on all night.

The computer is still not working.
