At the request of a relative I have designed a web page to sell some timeshares. He is adamant that he does not want to go through a timeshare broker. If you Google the name of the resort and timeshare you get 165,000 hits! There is no way anyone could find this page buried there.
I think adwords would be too expensive as well. The only route I could think of to get any traffic is an ad with a link on Craig's list. This is getting some traffic but you can only list in one city. Are there other free listing sites like Craig's that any of you have tried? If so I would appreciate hearing about them.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check them both out. If anyone can think of more suggestions they are welcome. -----o----o----o----o----o----o----o----o

hwhwa, I looked at Yahoo but the For Sale section is closed and I could only find real estate for sale and I don't think the timeshare would qualify.

Have you looked at some of the timeshare user groups? I believe a couple have classified ads for not a whole lot. You're (or he) in for a difficult and lengthy haul, especially if owner doesn't want to use broker/realtor. Seems to me, time shares are a really tough sell and go begging for a long time.
Perhaps one way is to post something on the property itself, if they will permit that. On occasion, a current owner may want another one for a family member, a friend, etc.

Did you know that had a category to sell Time Shares on Ebay? Not free but it would beat being buried on a web page.

I agree with all you people have said and I have said the same thing. People who don't post web sites are always sure there is a silver bullet to get your web site to the top of the search. I have tried to find bulletin boards that will list at no or low cost. Craig's list and Kijii seem like the best bet.
Thanks All. -----o----o----o----o----o----o----o----o

There is. It's called AdWords. Just add money, and you'll be at the top of the search.
You meant at the top of organic search results. I know. It's about eight years too late to attempt that without paying someone, though.
We were looking through timeshare listing services last night at dinner. There are tons of listings, as you probably know. If I bought a timeshare, probably the first thing I would do is list it for sale and enjoy the property for however many years it took to sell it.
If your relative needs cash this won't work, but if s/he is looking to get out from under the maintenance fees I'd seriously consider donating the timeshares to a charity auction and taking the tax deduction.

I spent a year on Hilton Head Island,I never understand why and how people get sucked into timeshare?
May be listed on Craigslist, country=Columbia in case some drug dealers need a place.

For Timeshares, I would suggest starting at:
http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/index.php
It is a good place to get more info about timeshares.
You are smart to question a broker, there are SO many out there that pretty much take your money, and do nothing.
The idea of having a timeshare sounds appealing to me, but the reality of owning one is another thing. It seems to me too many costs, and not enough options. I love the thought of having a large condo to use over a standard hotel room, but I figure I can always rent one and pay less. After attending a timeshare presentation this past year, it is no wonder to me that so many people end up buying these. I knew going in that I would not be buying, but if you are the type that can waiver on your thinking, these presentations can be a dangerous place.

Where is the property?
May be you could advertise in local newspaper, like Myrtle Beach/Hilton Head Island would appeal to folks in SC.NC and states along the East Coast.

Hwahwa, The property is in Mexico so I don't think we can advertise it locally.
Here is a development that interests me. At my suggestion they listed it on their local Craig's List on the 23rd with a link to the web page I posted. The page on my domain that I updated on Google on the 22nd is not yet showing but yesterday the Craig's List ad was on the FIRST page of a Google search for the resort plus timeshare sale! This has pleased my family but I am not sure how it will translate to a sale.

ebayvet, thanks for the tip about the Timeshare Users Group. We have put an ad there.
niel35, thanks for the suggestion about kijiji. It is listed there too.
hwahwa, it is in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
This is the timeshare page I designed if you know anyone interested in a timeshare in Mexico.
(edited so many times because I had a error in my URL which took a few times to fix.)
