I was at my local post office today, and I overheard a customer asking the clerk at the adjacent window about the new Flat Rate Priority Mail box.
I asked the clerk at my window about this, and she said starting this Monday, March 3rd, a larger Flat Rate Priority Mail box will be available to all customers.
I checked the web site at www.usps.com, and sure enough, the new box, measuring 12" x 12" x 5 1/2" will be available on March 3rd.
The shipping cost will be $12.95 anywhere in the U.S.A., $29.95 to Canada and Mexico,
and $49.95 to all other countries. The web site says a 20 pounds limit applies, but I'm hoping this is for packages bound for foreign countries, and NOT domestic packages.
The shipping cost is $10.95 to military addresses.....in other words, APO / FPO addresses.

Nice size for shipping plates. Too bad it's so expensive. I've been cutting down my 12"x12"x8" boxes when I have to ship a plate.

Yeah, I agree about the cost. When I heard about this new size at the post office, I assumed it would cost $8.95, just like the current flat rate priority boxes.
When I came home and logged onto the Postal Service web site, I was surprised to learn that the domestic fee for this new size would be $12.95.
