...buddy, Harpo!

Hello out there in VD-LAND!

My name is Harpo, and along with being a baby harp seal, I'm also Ralphie's long-distance, imaginary best buddy, here today to beg you all fur yer HELP!

Only TWENTY-SEVEN days left before the MURDER and SLAUGHTER of the DEFENSELESS begins up here in the beautiful country, CANADA!

Although my buddy Ralphie and his Daddy Tom (remember him? THE GEEZER?) try to give voice to my plight, they can't do it all on their own, so we turn to the many FINE & GOOD FOLKS here on the EO to pitch in & lend a hand; to step up to the plate and demand that CANADA STOPS this SENSELESS SLAUGHTER of the innocents!

PLEASE give me a VOICE and help my PLEA for MERCY?

THANK YOU!

Sincerely,
Harpo (the BABY HARP SEAL)
Ralphie (his imaginary "friend)
Tom (his gomer-geezer Daddy)

PS: Please READ and consider joining the fight here:

Me too, everyone I know & some I don't know including winning bidders.

If we all sent that link to our winning bidders it could go a long way specially if they kept it going.

Come on. If you've ever eaten veal, you've done the same thing as the seal hunters families. We love to put our value judgments on what and how other people live while we commit the moral equivalent. There is no difference between a seal, a cow, or a dog. They are animals. If you eat one, you might as well eat the others. I make no apologies for eating meat. I make no apologies for wearing leather. I would make no apologies for wearing fur (if I had the money to buy one). Please, only forward that email if you are vegan. If you are not, then just leave it be.

dejapooh have you ever seen the films of how these baby seals are murdered? If they want to continue with this "hunt" the least they could do is find a "kinder & gentler" way to slaughter these babies.
My opinion ....

Not just veal, grocery store meat of any kind and eggs too.

The difference is, this slaughter is for no other purpose than the production of an unnecessary luxury item. Comparing this hunt to the production of food is specious at best.

Not the same thing it's even worse & just as unecessary.

Hard to believe anyone could not care that baby seals are being clubbed to death or that anyone would want to wear fur from an helpless caged animal that was rectally electrocuted so as not to damage it's fur. Try to imagine the pain & suffering we inflict & I mean really try.

Thanks MCJane - I'm OK because I buy all my seafood from a local market. Their salmon is farm raised but I'll doubt check before I buy just in case.

Do you know how they kill Cows? They hit them in the head with an electric hammer. How is that different?

To claim that eating is somehow a superior purpose and that it is therefore acceptable to kill cows with a mallet to the head and not seals seems specious to me.

The fact is that the only REAL difference is that we SEE this, and we don't look at what happens in the Slaughter houses near our homes. We don't want to know what we eat. This has been found to be just about the most humane way to kill an animal. Once the club hits, the baby feels nothing. Unless you are willing to eliminate all fur, leather, meat, eggs, fish, and so on, I don't have much sympathy for your position. If you are willing to eliminate all fur, leather, meat, eggs, fish, and so on, then you are just a nut.

Deja - I don't equate killing DOMESTIC animals for the purpose of food and leather etc to the killing of WILD seals to satisfy the luxury clothing industry in Europe (US does not allow seal imports). This hunt has nothing to do with aboriginal hunters who do hunt for food and clothing. Did you realize that the Canadian government still grants Polar Bear hunting licenses (for trophies) when there are only 22,000 left in the wild and the breed is threatened with extinction within our lifetimes due to global warming?

Deja:

I never clain consistancy...

I'm extremely ANTI BABY HARP SEAL HUNTING...I am NOT ANTI-HUNTING...

When I was in college, I went DEER HUNTING with a friend whose family lived on the same mountain for 150 years. Deer hunting season was: SURVIVAL! Everybody in the family got a TAG, and you better believe that whole family got their limit EVERY YEAR. Field strip the deer & load the carcass into the pickup & into town (loved the name of the town: SPEEDSVILLE) to the IGA, where the butcher carved the carcass, wrapped the cuts, and froze everythging. NO PART OF THE DEER WAS EVER WASTED by this family...

THAT'S A HUNT!

What they do to the seals is worlds apart...

The babies are knocked over the head, and then SKINNED ALIVE! The STILL ALIVE BUT DYING animal is just left to rot...

It's IMMORAL & UN-NECESSARY!

Part of my point is there is no difference between a domestic animal and a wild one. It is more comfortable to think about it in those terms, but there really is no difference.

End product really has nothing to do with it. Just because YOU do not want something does not mean you should make that decision for someone else.

As for hunting Polar Bears, an endangered species? Sorry. I can't support that kind of hunting (no matter what they do with the bear). Endangered is the entire difference here.

The point I was trying to make is that the Canadian Government is notorious for exploiting resources. Want to kill all the baby seals until they are endangered? Want to depend on a government that grants licenses to hunt polar bears to regulate seal hunting? What do you think polar bears eat? It's all connected.

Yes, domestic cattle are slaughtered for leather but their meat is used for animal feed (let's hope not cattle feed) and glue and whatever - jello? End product does have a lot to do with it.

God forbid, now Sea Lions what next. Some day we will pay dearly for what we do.

It's only by the grace of God that we are here. Mother Nature has yet to find a need for a human being. I can't think of any either.

Plants & animals are becoming extinct everyday while humans multiply by the thousands every hour of the day. This can't go on forever.

Talking about senseless -- Please try to remember the polar bears, too -- seems even though ice caps are melting, they still have not been added to the endangered list- thanks .

"Do you know how they kill Cows? They hit them in the head with an electric hammer. How is that different? "

Maybe I'm wrong but don't they use some kind of gun that puts a bolt through the cows brain and kills them instantly? These seals are being clubbed to death with what looks like a small baseball bat.

The first Baby Seal was killed this morning.
If you haven't signed the petition PLEASE sign it now.
It's never too late.

These babies don't run in fear they trust & look right into the eyes of the bastards that club them to death.

Every time I read about this, I cry. I'd love to take a club to these killers. That's what they are. And, when they've breathed their last breath, they'd better be praying that God will be merciful.

Ditto, Bonval. Polar bears are among the first victims of global warming. We need to protect the species.
