Soon, sales will start slowing, if they haven't already. Every year we see a decline in sales between (roughly) March 15 and April 15. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, but somehow every year it still does.

Hopefully you will have planned for this and have a nice cash reserve to get you through the month if need be.

The height of silliness would be for the shallow thinkers to claim the slowdown in sales is because of the boycott or the new rules. But what do you want to bet someone will?

Every year I have seen sales pick up right after April 15 and I expect this year to be no different.

THis is a new reason to dread the "Ides of March". I don't remember that date particularly. I have always had uneven sales during the prolonged "Spring Break" season (seems like it goes on forever). My daughters have different Spring Breaks again this year.

It will be hard to judge the effect of Best Match. Folks have been reporting marked slow down in sales since it went site-wide last week.

My sales really slowed down about a week ago. I am wondering if eBay will have a reduced listing day. The recent reductions really don't help me because I don't use the gallery, so for me it's only 5 cents difference.

With the new insertion fee schedule, there really is no reason to have a "reduced" fee listing day. Auction counts are at about 13.5 million, typical for this time of year. A "shot in the arm" usually only occurs when listings fall to about 12 million.

You may be interested to learn that other than on the various discussion boards, both sellers and buyers appear to be quite oblivious to any changes. At least that's true of the several dozen eBayers I talked to over the week end, many of them quite active sellers and/or buyers.

birgittaw - the sellers will know when they get their March bill.
Fluffy - is this due to tax time?
Good for me that I had my best ever month in January and my DH just got his yearly bonus.

If it gets any slower, its gonna be a complete halt. This whole year has been slower than normal and since the new fees kicked in, even more slower. It seems as if store listings are totally hidden now, and are only being found by the old pros who know how to look for them.

Does anyone have any idea what ebay did last Oct and Nov? I saw the highest number of sales ever, and those months aren't usually that great for me. It's been all downhill since then.

Jake - October was great for me too. Was that when they had Free Gallery? Well it isn't working now. I was on vacation almost all of November so missed out on that.

But how about a general slowdown? My daughter the beautiful bartender reports a dismal week! And here I always thought when thing were rough, people drowned their sorrows, and when they were wonderful, they all celebrated.

Even in the non-eBay world I have always found this time period slow for antiques. I don't think it is so much tax time, as sort of a "blah" time; not winter, not spring (in New England, it's mud season). So my last listings end tomorrow, and I am getting the next batch ready for mid-April.

Maybe everyone is running out of steam. Have to answer questions (already answered in listing) for people who don't bid anyway. And just like in real world, smallest sales sucking up greatest amounts of time.

I am pushing ahead with increased store and core listings. I am filling three categories in both ebay and Vendio stores. The only slowdown here is my inability to type quickly, and my eyes which become strained after sunset.

It should be no surprise. It's called the tax time slow down. It starts in Mid February and lasts until the last week of April. Many people worry about having to pay in to the government so they don't do their taxes right away. In turn they are uncertain of what they maybe getting back or need to pay so the trend is to go conservative until the taxes have been done.
