If it were up to me, it would be 3 yrs. My wife insists on my keeping them for 7 years. Lots of paper!

1 year. I also have my sales on an excel spreadsheet, but I trash the copy of the invoice, etc... after one year.

If you have a local copy center they might have a scanning service.

The law office I work at sends a bankers box over full of papers. They organize and scan them for $30 a box.

I have sent over half the file room so far...I'm working on getting the other half box ed up over the next couple of weeks.

I guess I am a pack rat when it comes to that. I have them from when I first began selling online. That goes back to 1999. That file cabinet is getting pretty full though.

My copies go back to 1999. One day soon I'm going to toss them all.

We have electronic copies of all emails and invoices going back to the beginning of our time on eBay. Have over the years transferred them progressively from floppies to MOs to CD-ROMs to DVD-Rs. Keep two copies of our files; one at home for ease and a second off-site encrypted backup in case of fire, burglery, flood, etc. Works for us...

I have always gone the 7 year route.

If it wasn't so challenging for me to do discs and downloads, I would prob. only hold for a year.
But I even continue to do all our accounting records by hand...just easier for me and my brain.

I save my invoices as pdf files with my web browser.
