The future problem that I see, is that once feedback for buyers is removed, I as a seller, will never be able to respond in kind.

He did so because he was irritated that I requested his address four (4) times.

I guess I would have been irritated as well. Just because your shipping program doesn't like the address doesn't mean it's not good. New York has weird addresses and without knowing the address, I can state this guy was giving you the correct address. This is why the new feedback system is being put in place. You just gave this guy an undeserved negative. He paid. You didn't ship because of your problem. That's not his fault.

"That's not his fault."

YES, it is!

Basically, the USPS does NOT lose mail anymore -- not for about 15 years or so...

WHY?

Because EVERY valid USA address is stored in its AMS (Address Matching System)...

When you use ANY mail product (STAMPS.COM; Endicia; PayPa; Shipping Assistant), the address YOU provide (ignoring the NAME postion) is shoved thru the AMS in order to get the proper STANDARDIZED ADDRESS...

If the address you provide does NOT come up valid, THEN you stand a chance of MIS-DIRECTED or RETURNED mail...

BillK did EXACTLY the RIGHT thing in asking for a CORRECT address!

Many folks don't know that the address they give out to their Aunt Dolly is worthless...

Whenever I get an INVALID address (one that doesn't go thru the AMS properly), I NEVER ship until the buyer provides a CORRECT ADDRESS...

I have a question about Square Trade: Does it automatically buy you withdrawal of negative FB? A year or two ago I finally gave neg FB to a seller for a DVD that was never received (emails and phone calls to the seller were not returned). Seller opened a square trade dispute. I answered my part but seller did not answer his part. I never got the DVD. In the end the negative FB was withdrawn. I never would have consented to mutual FB withdrawal because I was so pi##ed and yet it was withdrawn!

Get a clue Tom. Maybe you could have Ralphie explain it to you.

There are many NY City addresses that come up invalid because the AMS system is jacked. There are many times where I have had to add a dash, or leave off a number then hand write it in.

To imply that a customer doesn't know their own address is just simply stupid on your part.

"stupid" HELL. I use Click and Ship and every once in a while it won't accept an address. I email the buyer for a correct address and they usually reply. Otherwise I have to take the package to the USPS and wait in line to get it shipped. EBay has one address, PayPal has another and then they ask you to ship it to another address. Sometimes even their email address is wrong. And don't call Ralphie's buddy stupid because you will never match up to Tom's intelligence, kindness, wit and eagerness to help on the EO.

Whoa...somebody needs a little fibre.

I use Endicia and call folks when I can't get a good address, usually in New York. They then say, Oh you have to put the business name or floor. Then, no problem. And my daughter lives in NYC so I understand their problem.

And Bill K DID ship, with signature confirmation. For someone to get mad because you are trying to provide good service to them is stupid. Bill K was also protecting his behind incase of INR.

As for him leaving negative, well, his experience was negative. And we all know now that the feedback changes have more to do with eBay economics then "buyer fear" of feeback retaliation.

Afterall, how easy is it to get another ebay id?

I also had this problem a few times and I had to contact the buyers also. They all had forgot to add something to the address when they filled out the form, there could be many reasons why the address is not matching up. As a seller it's our responsibility to make sure the package reaches the buyer.

You can not ship when it don't match up with the US post office system. Also the person may not have entered it correctly with the postal system when they registered there new address, there could be so many reasons why this happens.

Why is it so difficult for a buyer to respond to a simple request? The seller only wants to make sure that the buyer receives there package, why don't a buyer realize it's for his benefit also.

This isn't entirely the case all of the time. I have several times had an address that would not be accepted by the DC on the USPS website. I double check paypal's address and ebay's address and if they jive, I will mail it, I have never had a package lost yet. Of course, I guess in theory I would not be protected by Paypal but I figure even if you jump thru their stupid steps, you can still lose your case. Cross my fingers.

I still don't believe in a neg for a neg. JMO

Stonecold....you can't sit here and tell us that EVERY ADDRESS that your buyers send you are 100% correct!!

I ship dozens daily and usually get at least 1 a day that has used

RT 22
CTY 76
34 CONST
54 MLK
BOX 56
977 E 5700 S
SLC
129 RT 67
447 AEG/ECS
MLR 65

which makes you go back and try to find the correct address. Add to that the factor of having TWO DIFFERENT addresses...one on PAYPAL and one on EBAY. You ship to the Paypal one to stop chargebacks, or ship to the eBay one to fulfill order. Out of the ten listed above...lets see how many YOU can name CORRECTLY so that you will NOT get charged when the post office returns the MEDIA MAIL to you and collects the RETURN SHIPPING! My last problem buyer had THREE different addresses he was using between eBay and Paypal...all within one mile of each other. I side with TOMWii and Ralphie...

"To imply that a customer doesn't know their own address is just simply stupid on your part."

Come on, Stoney! It's a beautiful day out there! Get some fresh air & roll back some odometers, why doncha?

Everything with the USPS is automated & done with scanners!

Everytime my PAYPAL DEBIT CARD expires & they send me a new one, it ALWAYS gets LOST & RETURNED to them!

WHY? Their software truncates the Apt number...Instead of Apt 162, their sw chops that to Apt 1...And the POST OFFICE refuses to try & correctly match up NAME+ADDRESS...Since the name is INCORRECT for Apt 1, the PO just throws it back into the RETURN TO SENDER pile...I've yacked&yacked to PP about this snafu, but they just plain refuse to increase the spaces in the ADDRESS file on the site. I've since solved the problemo, but it goes to show that the PO will deliver ONLY to addresses that match the AMS, although now & then ya get a NICE postal employee who goes the extra yard & does the "nice" thing...

Many folks out WEST have TWO ADDRESSES! A STREET ADDRESS which is INVALID for the USPS, but VALID for UPS & FEDEX...And they have an in-town POST OFFICE BOX, which is VALID for the USPS, but worthless for UPS,etc.

AND SOME DON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE!

I've had a number of these folks send STREET ADDRESSES which the USPS will NOT deliver to...So, Stoney, yer full of bush!

Retaliatory feedback is one of the reasons that ebay is changing the system. As a seller, I have only left negative feedback when I wasn't paid, not because of someone's attitude and I have had my share of that as well. I leave feedback first as a seller and NEVER first as a buyer.
