I gotta say... I'm glad that I'm getting rid of my eBay inventory. I'm getting sick of all the stupid stuff eBay's been doing lately. I definitely don't like the thought of either permanent cookies (which, I wouldn't trust eBay enough to think that they aren't tracking additional stuff as well with their cookies...) nor do I like the thought of having to go through a phone-verification process before I can list an item. Especially, how effective will that really be if I want to list an eBay item while I'm visiting relatives.... and the phone number that eBay has is my home number? They're not going to be able to get ahold of me, then I won't be able to list stuff?
Once again... I'm liking my own website more and more. The rules don't change unless I want them to.

You can use the Paypal Security Key on both PayPal and ebay. When the PayPal Key is used with ebay, there is no need for ebay to call you for verification.
From the sounds of this... this is a measure that they are taking in addition and separate to the Paypal Security key... and I don't think using it will make anyone immune to the phone verification. Here's eBay's official announcement on the matter:
Honestly, I understand the good intentions behind it... but I really think that Big Brother is getting a bit too big for my liking. I'll be getting my inventory cleared out, and take my business elsewhere.
Imagine if they started verifying buyers by phone before they bought something? How quickly would the market collapse. We're in a digital age. To require a phone verification is ludicrous.

PayPal already is doing this. And it sucks. If you are a business and you have a switch board phone system, they will lock your account every time. It was so bad, we simply dropped all PayPal payments at work. We accept merchant account payments and google checkout.
When the PayPal Key is used with ebay, there is no need for ebay to call you for verification.
Guess again. For the same reasons stated above.
I'm with eauction. I'm glad I made the business decision to utilize ebay less and less.
