Hi all!

Ralphie & I just got some new goodies in and hope some here can help us with some questions:

First up is:

COMPLETE 1922 ARM&HAMMER 30 CARD BIRD SET
in gorgeous condition:

They're LIKE TOBACCO CARDS, but obviously NOT...

SIZE: 3" x 1 7/8"

WHAT do I call the set?

WHERE do I list this beautiful SET?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NEXT UP:
This really beautiful VICTORIAN (?) TRADE CARD:
What do the NUMBERS mean?
Is this an ad for THREAD?
SIZE= 4 7/8" x 3 7/8"
THANKS ALL FOR ANY INFO & HELP!
Tom & Ralphie
Beautiful cards Tom and Ralphie. I love the birds, sorry, I can't help with them. I don't think the 20 yards would be thread, it is not measured in yards. I am wondering if it the lace around the neck of the dress?
There is quite a bit of info on google about the Arm & Hammer set. Here is one:
I think the second one is a fabric label, not a trade card.
THANKS! Zippy!
BTW: are OLD class pictures worth listing? Especially if ya cannot PLACE the school?
I haven't had much luck selling class photos, but my son & I have fun captioning them in Irfanview. We usually identify the class clown, teacher's pet, bully, as well as "I have to go the bathroom", wearing Dad's tie, you get the picture...
Yes, the third one from the left on the bottom row certainly needs the rest room break!
I was typing a response that the lovely red boarded card looked like a label for a bolt of fabric when I had to leave it unfinished to pick up the dog from the groomer. I see that someone had the same idea. The number would identify the pattern and the ___yds the length.
Is the school picture a real photo postcard? There are collectors for it if so but I don't think it would go really high.
The birds are charming.
THANKS, ALL!
No, it's just a PHOTO...I thought it was cute, but kinda sad at the same time...
MY BIGGEST PROBLEMS:
Ralphie & I have done surprisingly well with the CARDS -- considering I knew NOTHING about PC's before we started a few months ago...
But, I still have great difficulty deciding WHAT CATEGORY to list many of them...I know we waste a bunch of moola by listing in TWO categories many times...
PLUS, we still have problems with GOOD TITLES...I like my titles to MAKE GRAMMATICAL & LOGICAL SENSE as opposed to just a bunch of KEYWORDS...Or, is that being counter-productive?
Ant help with these 3 would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!
We also have a BUNCH of really old & nifty UNDIVIDED BACK COLOR POSTCARDS that I think will do well...
Oi! Time to feed HRH...
THANKS, AGAIN EVERYBODY!
tomwiii....
The kid - second from the left - in the back row looks like my great-uncle JOEY. He was always skipping class and running around hiding in those vineyards & orchards out there in SANTA CLARA COUNTY near SAN JOSE....
Aw...The poor "Duh" kid...Probably grew up as a NUCLEAR PHYSICIST and worked on the MANHATTAN PROJECT before losing his security clearance after saying "Duh!" one too many times to General Groves...Sadly, his elderly years were spent as a one-man-band in Central Park...
As they say in Blue Velvet: "It's a strange world we live in..."
I had a lot of Bird figurines and in my efforts to downsize I am listing them but have been stuck on one of them as I didn't know what Bird it was and then........thanks to Ralphie & his Daddy I see a lot of Birds up top of this page.
The one I have is in your second row, second from the left. He is the pretty little black & yellow one.
Could someone help me out and tell me what it is.....I am just not an ornithologist ( and I probably won't win a Spelling Bee either)
Wish I could help you with classifications, but I only know postcards. The birds are especially lovely. Edited to add, if they were postcards, I would probably first list them as a complete set for $99. If they didn't sell, I'd list them individually in my store at $7.99. I don't know how to price cigarette/trade cards, however.
Tomwiii, I have a suggestion for the school photo. Put it aside until you get a good size group of old photographs and list them as a lot. Mix as many interesting subjects; pets, toys, cars, older, as you can find with some to "make up a bunch". Make sure this one and any other unusual subjects are mentioned and visible in the pictures of the lot. Use the term "vernacular" and "lot" in the title and description. That is the "hot" name for snapshot collectors now.
I am trying to "cut back" on my buying and only search for very specialized subjects but I know collectors who buy lots of photographs looking for interesting images. You won't make a mint but I know there is a market.
