I sold an item and the guy paid with paypal.

He is asking me to send the item to his friend and he gave me the friends address, he wants me to put a card inside saying Happy Birthday.

My question is if I do that then he could tell paypal that he never received the item, right?

So, what is a nice way of telling this to the buyer because if I send to the address he wants me to use then I would need to return his paypal payment and ask for a MO instead. I don't want to make a problem over this but I also feel funny telling him this cause it's like saying I don't trust him.

Any ideas?

I have done this many times for Buyers and have never had a problem in fact they have written to me and told me how much Aunt Bessie or whoever enjoyed their gift.
I have also had Buyers like that become regular repeat buyers for themselves.

I guess it depends on the value of the item.

I've done it too. I've even gift wrapped a few things.

I'm not saying you should feel comfortable doing it but, what does his feedback look like?

I usually ignore such requests because I use an automated system to ship that defaults to the ship to address in checkout or their primary shipping address. If I catch a request, I try to accommodate them, and never had it backfire.

I don't know if (50) is enough to convince me.

If he files an INR will you smack us with wet noodles?

I woke up to a good laugh this AM. thanks zippy & otteropp

Noooooooooo, I won't smack you guys with wet noodles.......I will find another punishment for you..lol

No, really, I'm glad for all the suggestions.

It seems that the older one gets the more they know, but the less they trust in themselves. (I'm speaking of myself) coming here kinda reinforces my thoughts.

You can always said I will do it for you but please add 2 dollas for insurance just in case.
I just enrolled in Paypal extended seller protection program and I am not a power seller, may be you can too, then you can ship anywhere in 190 countries approved by Paypal.

Toni - I've done this many times and haven't gotten burned by it. Use DC and make sure you keep his emails requesting that you send it as a gift to someone else. You should be okay. If it's not a high dollar item, I generally don't worry too much about it.

Are ye SURE yer NOT a powerseller without even knowing it?

It don't take much in sales to become a PS!

It used to be $1000/month averaged over 3 months, but, I'm pretty sure they lowered EVEN that modest level lately?

Anyhoo, about sending to UNCONFIRMED extra addresses (when yer not covered by the EXPANDED protection?)...

What we used to do is this:

1) LOW VALUED ITEMS: yes, without a thought...

2) MEDIUM VALUED ITEMS ($100-250): we WOULD do, but would also use SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION. Of course, that was NO help with PayPal, but, it gave us ammunition to use with local law enforcement in the event that somebody tried to screw us!

3) HIGH-VALUED ITEMS: NO! Over $250, & I just refused to take the RISK!

BUT: now with the EXPANDED protection, I'm able to assume MORE risk?

I've mailed as a gift to someone else about a dozen times, no problem. And occasionally someone bids on an item for a friend who doesn't have a computer and asks that I mail the item to a friend. Still no problem. I like the advice above, though, to check the feedback and also get DC AND save all e-mails.

I am sure I am not a powerseller, otherwise my Ebay ID would have a power seller icon next to it,but I have been averaging over $1000 sales per month.
Ebay invited me to be one months ago but I just did not bother.
Well,we shall see !

The PS logo can be turned off and on but will still show up on your My eBay page even if it is turned off on your listings.

Have you checked there?

haahaa:

You say the following:

"I am sure I am not a powerseller, otherwise my Ebay ID would have a power seller icon next to it...

This is INCORRECT!

In order for the PS logo to appear, one MUST go into one's MY eBay & check off the appropriate box...

If I had to guess, yer a PS'er but donna know it...

Nope,I went into my Ebay, nowhere there is an option for me to turn on my powerseller icon.
And when I finally found button in Ebay Help session on power seller which said power seller sign in here,I press the button and it said-sorry that you are leaving, bla bla bla.
Anyway, most domestic buyers do want their item shipped to confirmed address, the ones I am worried about are the overseas buyers, but since I do not ship EMS,there is no online trackable DC,so this piece of Paypal extended seller protection is not of much use to me.

Here is what I have done in the past. I charge an extra $5.00. Then I ship the item to the address they ask me to and also send a box and put the receipt inside with delivery confirmation and ship it to the confirmed address. That way I did ship to the confirmed address and would qualify for PayPal's protection.

Great Idea Stone

I might just do that, even if I just ship a small padded envelope with tracking that would cover me just in case there is a problem.
We are talking about a small amount of money but I just don't even want the hassle of having a complaint filed and then wasting my time.

hahaa:

FIRST, Login to eBay, then, GOTO:

MY EBAY >> SITE PREFERENCES >> Logos & Branding >> Click the "SHOW" button at the right side to expand >> Click the "EDIT" button in order to turn ON or OFF the PS logos...
