Hi All!

One of the EXTREMELY KIND and EXTREMELY GENEROUS F-O-R-A-Ts (friends-of-ralphie-and-tom's) just sent us a new GOODY BOX, chock full of...GOODIES!

Because so many HERE ON THE EO have taught me & Ralphie SO VERY MUCH about POSTCARDS (plus, the same FORAT sent us a BOOK!), we're getting better and better educated about PC's, and now (usually) know WHERE to look for answers we sometimes have about PC's...THANKS TO ALL HERE FOR MY CRASH-COURSE EDUCATION IN POSTCARDS!

Because of you very HELPFUL & WONDERFUL EO'ers, Ralphie & I have been modestly successful with our NEW product line...

PLUS, we've been having FUN! I actually enjoy the SCANNING & RESEARCH I put in when I list the PC's...

OTOH: I have a HUGE amount to still LEARN, especially when it comes to EPHEMERA!

So...Once again, ole CHUNKY-BUTT & I come here to MILK YER BRAINS for more help...I know I'm a bit lazy...I plead MISERY, as my INSANE PAIN DOC has been shuffling my pain meds the last two months, and, some weeks I can barely stand, much less try to answer on my own...The last 2 weeks he had me on KADIAN(TIME RELEASED MORPHINE) which has made me SICK AS A DAWG (sorry, Ralphie)...I mean TRUE MISERY! For 14 days all I wanted to do was BARF or BED! Finally, on THURSDAY, he switched me to OPANA (never heard of it? Reminds me of a singing BUCKY BEAVER?), and WOW! WHAT a world of difference! I no longer feel like throwing myself out the window, ascending to that great eBay in the sky! But, it's only been 3 days, and I'm still not 100% my usual obnoxious self And I'm still a little GROGGY + MUSH-BRAINS...

So, YEAH, I'm a bit lazy, but, I'm hoping all ye WONDERFUL folks on the EO will forgive our being PITAs and pitch-in anyways?

Oi! Ole LARD-BUTT is bellowing at me from the kitchen floor: "Enough with yer self-pity and grovelling for sympathy, old man! As yer QUESTIONS, for goodness sakes!"

On THAT happy note, here goes:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
#1: Here's a set of 4 very pretty VICTORIAN (?) CARDS:
BLANK on the reverse and measure 6 1/4" x 3 7/8"
???
Do I just call them "SCRAP?"
Also, the CHILD in card #1? That STYLE looks familiar? But I can't remember which...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

#2: THESE two cards are POSTCARD SIZED, but aren't POSTCARDS...

So...WHAT do ya call them?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
#3: Here's an interesting/boring DOPS RPPC of sumptin(????) in WISCONSIN:
Any IDEAS what the SIGNS say?
Any IDEAS what the CAPTION reads? The LOCATION?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

#4: Ain't she PURTY? But, how to HUSTLE her BUSTLE?

Measures 13" x 7 3/8"
WHAT to you call these? "Advertising PLACARDS?"
Should I cut off that broken stub at upper LEFT so it is symmetrical?
Would you date this 1890?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyhoo:
THANKS ALL FOR ANY AND ALL ASSISTANCE!
Without youse guys (& gals) here on the EO, Ralphie & I would have SUNK months ago!
Yer OVERWHELMING generosity keeps us going and going...
Tom & Ralphie
"Hey Guys. The child looks like the Campbell Soup kid."
Yeah, that was my FIRST thought, but it's not quite the same I don't think...
I was thinking some famous PC artist like Clapsaddle, or somebody like her, but I can't quite put my finger on the name, probably because I'm SENILE with OATMEAL fur BRAINS lately...
Tom: Take a good look at the writing on those Wisconsin real photo postcards. If that's a place name, or the name of a photographer, list them. The pictures may be boring, but I've seen equally boring RPPCs of our Idyllwild area and we either wanted them for our museum collection or someone else did.
Grace Drayton was the original artist. I expect there were many imitators as well.
YES! I knew somebody would recognize the STYLE...
These cards are from Hayes Litho from Buffalo...Does THAT correspond to her?
Amber:
THANKS! Now that you point it out, it IS POLAR, WISCONSIN! My mush-brain just could not see the obvious!
Can anybody read the signs? I've magnified but can't make sense...
Roady:
Oh, yeah, I know...I was just being silly! I sold an RPPC of gulls eating garbage off the stern of a USN warship...Boring, but sold NICELY...
THANKS everybody...Getting closer & closer to solving ALL the mysteries...
I think the one from Canton, Ohio is called an advertising trade card.
- I could just make out bits and pieces of the signs - Notice . . .park . . responsible . . . done to. . . rs & park.
Of course, I could have any or all of that wrong.
"I think the one from Canton, Ohio is called an advertising trade card."
Yeah, that sounds GREAT, except that this thingy is BIG: 13x7 approximately, so, I was thinking there may be a specific yet different term?
THANKS!
Yes, the artist of the first card is Grace Drayton Weidersheim. It looks like it has google eyes still attached. I would put google-eyes and novelty in the title.
On the presidents, I'd leave them in the postcard category and my first sentence in the description would be "Wonderful vintage card is the size and weight of a standard size postcard but is missing the postcard markings on the back".
I don't know much about paper except postcards but #4 is lovely. I'd use die-cut in the title for her. Not to derail your thread, but I'm stumped on trying to figure out this contraption:
Ralphie says: "Woof;bark;bark;belch;gurglesnork"
translates to: "Don't mention it..."
Anyhoo:
1) Even though the card ain't SIGNED, do you think I can still attribute this card to her?
2) Do I just call these cards: "Victorian Scrap?" Or, is there another more precise term for these?
THANKS!
I would call it an unsigned Grace Weidersheim Drayton (I got them transposed in my last post). to be safe, you could use "This unsigned card is in the style of Grace Drayton Weidersheim". Who is the publisher?
Publisher:
Hayes Litho of Buffalo...
Here's another scan of the WISCONSIN campground...If anybody has better eyes than mine...Ralphie's are WALL-EYED & mine are CROSSED-EYED after staring at this thing forever:
None in the title though.
The signs are damaged. The first one is a notice of time limits in the park but how many hours that was is missing; the second states that the PTB are not responsible for damage to cars in the park.
Greetings from Oregon (at Mom's house) - not much time to post but thought I'd chime in here:
I don't think your kid postcard is a REAL Grace Drayton Wiedersheim card. She almost always signed hers and her publisher was Reinthal & Newman. There were many imitators.
Here is one I have in my store:
Thanks, Oh Marvelous Mumsey!
Maybe NOT her, but is the kid just GENERIC?
That HAIR+ROSEY CHEEKS+GOOGLE-EYES just seems to shout: "I'm designed by the famous artist..."
Or, as HRH often opines: "Yer full of hot-air, old man!"
Also, I still need to know if these cards are CALLED SUMPTIN, or are they JUST Victorian scrap?
THANKS, EVERYBODY fur all the KIND help!
Oi! Now I've got a HEADACHE!
Yeah, I've got SCRAPS also, and didn't think these cards WERE scraps, but, in the immortal words of HRH Ralphie the 3rd: "WTF are they?"
THANKS for the kind words...If it wern't for all the suppoort Ralphie & I received here on the EO over the past year, I would have lost the battle...
The one bright spot is that (as predicted by everything I've read on the net) the TMJ pain dissipated about 5 months ago -- still have the clicking noise, but (thankfully) NO pain!
OTOH: this is a lousey time in American history to be a CHRONIC PAIN patient...The goofy DEA has declared war on PAIN CLINICS and, for that matter, on CHRONIC PAIN patients...
So far, I'm really impressed with the OPANA. I was petrified to try it after my disasterous 14 day experience with KADIAN, but, so far...so GOOD! I have very few mild side affects, which are decreasing as each day goes by -- PLUS, it really does a number on the SHOULDER+HIP pain I suffer with...
So, I'll keep me fingers (and Ralphie's toes) crossed that FINALLY, I've got a regimen that with KILLPAIN without killing me in the process...WooHoo!
NO, I was referring to #1, which I've just been informed are: INK BLOTTERS!
YIKES! How stooopid of me! Of COURSE they be INK BLOTTERS!
I got so wrapped-up with the kid's artist & the glue residue on the backs, they I completely forgot that the card stock feels totally different -- it's THICK and ABSORBENT!
NOW the QUESTION IS: "Should I sell as a SET-OF-4?"
Oi! I'm having SO MUCH FUN!
Hey what happened to the reply I just posted? Lost in cyberspace I guess.
I'll try it again. I have seen chromolithos like #4 called "oversize trade cards".
You will have to mention the missing parts at the top. I am not sure cutting them off will help much.
