So if I have an item that sells for $250.00 my savings is about $1.50 in FVF. So if my postage is more than $1.50 I'm loosing money on this deal.

....... and you can't require insurance on the item....
thanks..understand now...told you it is late...just kind of sick of the eBay 15% of 15% of 15% deals they are continuing to have
guess I was just hoping for a listing fee sale...not a read between the lines one....just have to wait and see how much this will help the numbers,,,,,

Big friggin deal!!! 15% off FVF's means we pay 7.43% instead of 8.75%. On a $10 sale we would save a whopping 13 cents!!!

Give them free shipping and they will expect it forever. Bad enough now they all think they are being over charged because they have no idea how much shipping costs are.
Why doesen't eBay do something for the sellers like explain to bidders how much shipping, shipping supplies, ink and labels or gas to drop packages costs us.

But last week when I made my listing which were about 95 auctions I decided to do free shipping just to see if I get more hits and more sales.
So far my listings are showing up on the first page of new listings, I have more watchers then ever before and I feel it helped in my sales.
What I sell I am able to adjust my starting price so that helps also, but lots of sellers can't do that because of what they sell.
I also figured how much I would charge to ship an item and then I added that cost to my starting bid. I know I am paying more to Ebay by doing this but I wanted to see if my finial bid price goes higher and so far what sold has done well.
The listings that I charge extra for shipping are not doing as well. But I have a few more days to see how it goes.
Lately the cost of doing business here at Ebay has been a struggle, but for the little bit more it cost me to make sales I feel the cost is worth it to me.
I also think it would help my DSR rating plus
give me more sales. If I want to stay with Ebay I felt I needed to make adjustments and as usual us sellers are the ones that get hurt.
Ebay is leaving sellers 2 choices, you either adjust to there new ways or you leave.

Hey eBay we could offer free shipping and jack up our prices to cover the loss. So we would price ourselves out of the market which would mean we would pay zero FVF. Sweeeeeet!

I thought it had already been determined that those who offer free shipping do not have higher DSR's than those who do not.

Yes I agree with you but as I mentioned not everyone is able to give free shipping. It all depends on what they sell.
I don't know if it would help the DSR rating but I do know by giving free shipping is helping me make sales and that's my goal.
I am still making a good profit on what I sell plus there will be some newer items that I offer and I would not be able to give free shipping for these items because as ggardenour mentioned i would price myself out of the playing field.

Ebay must think we are real stupid.
In reality, this is a fee HIKE.
For example, you have an item that you normally list for $9.00 with shipping at $6.50. Listing fees are 35 cents. This new way in order to cover the shipping expense, you would have to list it at $15.50 which in turn makes your listing fees 55 cents. That's a 64% hike in listing fees!
Then applying Steve's example, you would end up with a 7 cent increase in fees.
55 - 35 = 20 - 13 = 7 cent increase
The only way I could do it is to raise prices so high that no one would buy them.

Another thought. Could this be an experiment to see if sellers are willing to participate. That way, eBay could get FVF's on the total sale including shipping. I could be the prelude to a new eBay policy. I hate to think it.
