looks like the whole mid west is under a watch. Y'all better grab Toto and head for the root cellar! Sad part is that more and more people are TAPING their TV shows or listening to their Ipods and MISS the warnings! We had a tornado come close here and neighbors never knew it...watching their TiVo programs... We are NOT in the regular tornado belt, but lately, it doesn't matter where you live.

There was a tornado here in So. Calif., Western Riverside County, today. The photos looked very scary, but I haven't heard yet if it did any damage on the ground. We too are in Riverside County, in the mountains, so this is the closest I think we've come to a tornado.

My theory is that a lot of these weather things have always occurred, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc., but people didn't always live where those things happened. With the burgeoning population of the world, we should expect to hear of more damage to life and property, with more people spread around.

Could be wrong, of course. I do truly believe that the root problem on this planet is overpopulation.

I am going to whip the global warning pony one more time. From what I have heard over and over is that with the planet warming we are going to see more hurricanes and tornados. I live in the NE corner of Indiana and so far it’s been quite here.

The weather folks lost count of how many torndaos touched down in northen Oklahoma this afternoon. Our crack meteorologist, Gary England from the CBS channel, had spectacular "live" footage of most of them. As destructive as they are (and I live about a block from the path of the largest one on record, the one from 5 May, 1999), they really ARE quite amazing...as long as they're not in your area. So far in central Oklahoma, all is quiet...for now. I'd still rather have a tornado than an earthquake...earthquakes scare the bejeezers out of me and I can't imagine living in California! At least we know when and where the tornados will hit...the same can't be said about earthquakes.

Having grown up in the midwest, I swear I can "smell" when a tornado's coming - there's something about a greenish cast in the sky. I would prefer a tornado to an earthquake, too. I used to wonder why people chose to live near the San Andreas fault - knowing that it's a matter of when there's a major earthquake - not if. Now I live on a major fault line and shrug it off.

I have lived in areas that are earthquake-prone and have gone through several small tremors and, during one, actually heard that low rumbling "earthsound" which was terrifying! I still remember the sense of utter helplessness...most certainly a feeling we don't have with tornados. Good luck to you, pixie!
