I had a number of store listings pulled because of verbage in the description "PayPal or cash only for international buyers". When eBay initiated their non-cash policy, I was unable to manually revise 4,000+ listings, I quickly added a disclaimer that stated accepted payment methods without cash, and that it superceded any payment options in the descriptions. Is this a blackmark on my dashboard?

Wow, you got away with that for a long time. You're very lucky. I'm sorry they pulled them though.

It should show on your dashboard, I would think. I have a listing violation (animal, plants and wildlife from 3/08) on mine. It shows as a clickable link with a little yellow flag under "policy compliance" though my rating is still noted as "good."

How many did they pull? If the number was huge you might want to contact your PS rep to beg for forgiveness (::vomit:: ) before it does cause a more serious problem.

I had many listings pulled about 2 years ago for mentioning cash. Of course, I still see it being used in auctions, today, but I had to revise every listing in my TL to delete the cash verbage.

I don't understand - how does that effect the dashboard? I thought the dashboard was only what buyer rate you?

Well, 1400 pulled. I got 4 separate alerts about it. EBay did not respond to my written reply so I'll have to sit on the phone, waiting for PS support. I hope the 4 alerts won't have the adverse affect of counting as 4 separate violations.

pixia,

If you've given any thought to moving your inventory off of eBay and onto your own website... now might be the time to do it. Why spend the time revising 1400 items when you might be able to invest just a little more effort and get your own site going... not to mention... who's to say in a month eBay won't change something else, and you'll have to revise everything else again...

Just something to think about!

And also a big "I'm sorry!" for eBay putting you through this...

get your own site going...

Well, here's one reason why not.

When I tried to connect to vintagepaperads.com, I got:

The connection has timed out

The server at www.vintagepaperads.com is taking too long to respond.

eBay, for all its flaws, has high availability...in excess of 99.9%.

vintagepaperads -- I got the same thing fluffy did....timing out (broadband connection).

edited to add: Doesn't vendio have a bulk reviser? And if it doesn't why not?

Thanks for the heads up guys... my providers were having severe network issues yesterday... and I thought it was all taken care of... guess not...

At least they have toll-free 24/7 phone support... so I'm off to call and find out what's up! (try getting through to eBay or even Vendio that fast...)

Allright... I got a quick answer...

Basically, all their systems are up and running again after their outage yesterday... they're just having some minor connection issues right now as a result of getting everything back up. Looks like my main domain's getting timed out... but I just use that as a redirect to my actual store which is here:

http://store.vintagepaperads.com/servlet/StoreFront

Looks like that's still working fine... and most of my sales come off of Google hits that link directly to my items... so I don't think I'll take too much of a hit from the minor downtime.

(certainly less of an inconvenience than having 1400 listings pulled!)

1400? Yikes. I'm so sorry, Pixia. That stinks.

Ladyjewels, there is a section of the "Full Seller Dashboard" devoted to policy compliance. That's where my policy violation was noted.

There were a few other sections as well but I can't tell you what they were because the FSD has since disappeared though it now says "Full Seller Dashboard coming soon" at the top of my page.

eauctionmgnt: it is working fine for me.

Occasional problems is NOT a reason to not start up one's own website as someone has suggested. Oh ebay is so wonderful, blah, blah, blah. YEA RIGHT.

Thanks for checking it out deichen! And I agree with you 100%... besides... total downtime since I opened the site 2 years ago has probably been well less than 30 hours (yesterday/today was the biggest outage I've experienced). When you figure that the listings you are paying eBay for don't usually even show up in search for the first hour-or-two... I guess in a sense my down-time's less than eBay's!

Plus my outage didn't hurt! I've actually had great sales today! (about an average weeks worth in 1 day!)

Thanks all for the sympathy. Vendio has a bulk reviser, but like all other eBay bulk revisers that I know of, you can only add to the description, not find and replace.

I'm going to spend my time trying to fix the listings and go job hunting. I yearn to be a hobby seller!

Check out turbolister. If items have no bids, you should be able to search and replace even within the description (I just did two of my active listings replacing paper with birgitta). There may be a limit on how many you can do at a time, but you could try importing a select few and see if it works. You do have to download turbolister, and set it up, but hey, if it saves you time, it may be worth the effort, and you can always get rid of it later.

Edited to add: You have to synchronize for changes to appear. If you have questions, feel free to email me through eBay since I am who I am there too.

I wish I had known that about Turbolister earlier. Now that the listings have disappeared, I only have record of them in Vendio.

As I have said here before many, many times, putting up a website is far from a perfect solution for many people. It may be emotionally satisfying to think about it during a damn-you-eBay hissy fit, but without careful planning, willingness to spend freely on marketing, an ample amount of time and realistic expectations most such endeavors are doomed.

It amazes me that some people forget about all the positive benefits eBay provides for them and focus instead on their hurt feelings. How does that make money for you?

Fluffy,

I sure hope your comments aren't directed at me. I am making money on my website!!! It has been the best decision that I've made with my business. I can list items faster, and as a result I have a larger selection listed on my website than ANY eBay ad seller does. Plus, in comparison to the other competition on the web... there's only ONE competitor with more listed (and granted, they've got about 10 times what I've got... but with my current listing strategy I'll be caught up with them in about 5-10 years. My records also clearly indicate that after just TWO years having my own website, I'm now making almost 5 times as much profit... and the man-hours it takes me is about 25% less.

So... is a website for everyone... maybe not... but it sure did work for me. Did I plan, spend money on marketing, and have realistic expectations for the first couple years?... absolutely. Did it pay off? YES!

Not that it's worth arguing with Fluffy... (nor does it matter what Fluffy thinks)... but for pixiamom, I hope you know the intention of my suggestion was just to point out that eBay's in a volatile state right now. You just don't know what new stupid thing they're going to do next. There's NEVER a good time to make a radical change in your business plan (like switching venues). However, something like this might be a chance for you to try a new venue as a supplement or replacement to your eBay business... without investing much more time than it would take for you to get the stuff back on eBay. Don't want your own website? Look at rubylane or other collectible sites. Heck... if eBay's still the best way for your business right now... stay with them... but at least weight the alternatives a bit first.

I'm just one of those people that likes to try to make lemonade out of lemons, I guess... still... it stinks that eBay put you in this position! Whatever happens, I wish you best luck and hope that you can get your inventory back up quickly!
