The mother of a friend of mine traveled and collected extensively through the Southwest and Mexico. She collected a lot of Mexican pottery. One of the pieces is this one. Does it have a specific name? What would it be used for? Also...is there any specific term for the type of pottery other than "Mexican pottery"? I did some research and found "redware" but this seems to be designed with red and green and my pieces are decorated with white/earth color designs. She has a number of pieces so any help is appreciated.

It looks like a water jug. I would guess that it was made in Tonala but I am not positive about that. I know they sell such pottery there. (My old stomping grounds.)

You can see similar pieces in the back of this photo taken in Tonala. Those are the water jugs I am most familiar with. They have inverted cups on top.

I've sold redware decorated with all sorts of colors, not just red and green. Yellow, blue, etc.

Thanks all...since I'm not 100% sure and certainly don't want to misrepresent my item, I'll probably just go with "Mexican pottery" and see what happens...I'll probably mention "redware" and "Tonala" in the descriptions as possibilities...appreciate the help.
