I have a buyer in Thailand who paid with PayPal but requested that I ship the item to an address different than the one on her PayPal account. I told her that I could only ship to the address shown on the PayPal account. She just e-mailed back and said she had changed the address. But, when I checked her payment on my PayPal account, it's still the original one. This is not a high-value item. Would her old address still show up on my account info even if she HAD changed it? How could I verify if she has, in fact, changed it? Thanks for any help...

what you need to do is explain to her that you are going to cancel her payment so she can go into Paypal to change her address and make things straight at Paypal. Otherwise you will get bit in the butt with an unconfirmed address. the reinvoice her so she can pay again at paypal.
REMEMBER CYA!! ALWAYS!!!

how do you plan to ship her item?
If you have the extra seller protection,it makes no difference if her addr is confirmed or not,as long as you ship to the address on Paypal and it is trackable online.
BTW,I dont think Thai addres can be confirmed by Paypal,so far only UK and Canada /

OOPS you are right Hwahwa about Thailand with an unconfirmed address. You would need to send it express for it to be trackable.

what I have been doing is to make them buy insurance,or charge enough regular shipping to cover insurance.
U-PIC and DSI,you can file claim and ask them to send you the proceed, not send to the bidder.

If it's not a high value item, why not just ship it? Edited to add: take into account the time you have fretted over it, the hoops you want the buyer to go through, the extra expense and the relatively low probablity the deal will go sour.

Thanks for all the thoughts. Even though it's not a high price item, the buyer opted for priority shipping which is around $30.00. I had about decided to go ahead and ship anyway but the buyer forwarded a message from PayPal showing the new address. I think it will all work out fine. However, she wants me to mark the customs form as "gift"...I won't do that. I don't know what customs charges are in Thailand but can't imagine they'd be much on a $7.50 item!

If your bidder uses a stolen card, seller protection does not apply.
The item may be small, but you will lose on $30 shipping priority.
Pirority box is trackable,not envelope.
AMZN has stopped accepting Thai orders due to high level of cc fraud.

That was my thinking, hwahwa. After about 10 years of eBay selling, sometimes I get a "gut" feeling about a transaction. The last time I got this feeling was with a Hong Kong buyer. That one worked out fine. This is my first buyer from Thailand. I'll go ahead and ship (it is in a box) so will see if this transaction also works out. Thanks to everyone for input.

You have no seller protection in Thailand so it really doesn't matter if you send to a confirmed or unconfirmed address. JMHO.

So, for a high-dollar sale, is it probably a NOT a good idea to sell to a bidder in Thailand? Is there any way to exclude ONLY Thailand from the Asia selling preferences?

The only international countries that PayPal offers seller protection for are Canada and the UK. You're on your own for the rest of them. I'm challenging one now from the UK. I followed all the rules, but still they took my money. This after the buyer left me positive feedback. We'll see how the seller protection turns out on that one. If they don't give me the money back, I will not offer international on high ticket items. That is, items over $20.

The seller protection umbrella will be increased after eBay goes to the "PayPal only" (whenever that is) won't it? Is that policy change still slated for later this month or has it been put off until 2009? I have hard time keeping up with all the eBay changes...

I thought the extra seller protection covers unconfirmed address as long as you ship the item to the address in the email notification and provide trackable delivery confirmation.
