This is interesting! I've had 3 buyers in the last couple of weeks e-mail, with no prompting from me at all, that they'll send a check in payment. Of course that's all right with me, but is there any way eBay would come down on me for acceding to a buyer's wishes? To be perfectly clear: I do not mention anywhere that checks or money orders are an option.

It is my understanding that the buyers are allowed to contact the seller for alternative payment methods.
Sellers will not be allowed to advertise other payment methods in thier listing or at anytime during the transaction. Sellers are allowed to accept other forms of payment if it is initiated by the buyer.

It's funny but I've had more buyers wanting to pay with checks or money orders over the last week myself.
Do you think it would be OK to state in your listing that other forms of payment are OK if requested?

I am wondering the same thing. I have always had quite a few checks and money orders, but now I have put in my listings that I can only accept Paypal. I don't want to put off buyers who don't want to use Paypal, but I don't want to run afoul of eBay either.

this might not sit well, but I added this to some of my items;
eBay OWNS & PREFERS PayPal, please email any questions about payment methods.

I think any reference to other payment methods or the possibility of other methods in your LISTING could get you in trouble. Ebay might not catch it but you can bet your competitors will.

"Do you think it would be OK to state in your listing that other forms of payment are OK if requested?"
No.
"A seller may not "hint" that other than approved payment methods are accepted, for example, an email to a buyer or a line in the description that says anything along the lines of "EMail me about other payment methods." OR "Email me if you have questions about these payment methods."
Anything, and I mean anything in a seller's listing that hints or alludes to unapproved payment methods will result in the listing's removal."

back to square one. If you have not changed all of your listings yet, we are not required to accept PayPal only until sometime in January. For now, I will continue to accept checks and money orders.

what about when we send out our invoices, can we mention our other payment options then???? Or will they prevent us from implying other payment options.
Or can we go back to sending an invoice through the Ebay end of the auction email as long as the buyer's email address is still posted.

Once the PayPal only option goes into effect, we will be violating eBay TOS if we mention alternative payments in any form of communication during an eBay transaction.
Until then, you can let your buyers know that you intend to continue accepting other payments methods.
