I just got a notice when I was doing some research off ebay. It said I had a virus and 45 infected files. It comes from xxxxx
so I think it's just an attempt to sell me something. I have Spyware Doctor (but don't think I renewed it? - but it appears to still work) and I have McAfee with my Internet provider.
Should I be concerned?

I wouls suspect spam or scam. Clicking on some of those links sometimes will start a virus. It will just about shut down your computer until you get rid of it or buy their product. If spydoctor still works I would run it to see. I know nothing about spydoctor, I use a progam from AVG.com.

Yikes get that URL off here - I went there and it started doing some kind of thing to me. I am rebooting, clearing cookies and doing a scan just to make sure it didn't leave any nasties behind.

I'm so very sorry. I didn't think I had made a link.
I guess that's my answer.

lady - I think it was just trying to sell you something but you never know. I am scanning now to see if any virus was picked up - maybe you should do the same (Clear your cookies and temp internet files and the scan will go alot faster). You didn't make a link but I of course googled the site and even requested the cached version (thinking somehow it would be "dead" - my fault for being so stupid!

Probably was scareware - but it did look real! Anyway, my scan came out clean so I don't think they planted any nasties.

They just had a report about scareware on the local noon news. Not a good sign as it seems to be a growing problem.

I'm glad I gave up on windows years ago. Haven't tried Mac yet, maybe someday.

Yeah, we get to watch the colored pinwheel go round and round while we get older and develop wrinkles waiting for pages to load. My husband calls it the Pinwheel of Death.

Prospective Mac buyers: You can never have too much memory. That's the most important thing to keep in mind as you prepare to join the ranks of the insufferably smug.

I'm so glad I don't have to browse on a Mac!
