I sent a package almost 4 weeks ago, and the buyer has been writing to say it has not arrived. We don't have tracking for small package rate in Canada. Anyway, I copied the address on the Paypal invoice (it was also on the EOA invoice) and she told me that the street number and name were missing, it was to a named library. I forwarded her the Paypal invoice, and she says the if the IS the invoice, the address is not complete. She says that is it correct when she checks her account info.
She wants me to refund her payment, but I don't think that I am responsible, even if it is returned to me, I will still be out the postage and FVF's.
What should I do?

The fair thing to do is refund their money.

You should get your FVF back.
I have a case now for Holland, the buyer said she did not get it,so I will be sending a replacment in a week.

The thing that concerns me is that the mistake on the address is not my fault, I pasted and copied the one on the Paypal invoice.

Amber:

ALL valid USA addresses are contained in the USPS's ADDRESS MATCHING SYSTEM...

Before shipping ANYTHING to a USA address, alway check to see if it is a VALID address here:

http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/welcome.jsp

NOTE: It will also give you the STANDARDIZED address...
NOTE: The addressee's NAME is NOT needed & NOT considered...

If the USPS AMS shows that the address is INVALID, you stand a high probability of LOST OR MISDIRECTED MAIL!

Also, it is extremely impostant to use the STANDARDIZED address for QUICK delivery...

If she files complaint with Paypal, you will lose if you cannot prove you have shipped.

Sellers are protected if they shipped to the address on the payment. However as hwahwa says, you have to be able to prove that you mailed the package.

Tom is right...I had a fedex package a couple of weeks ago and the customer had 2nd street with the house number in front. Fedex and USPS said it was invalid and the customer said that is my address. I put it in as second street and it went through perfectly. That was a surprise to me.

Tom, are you saying I should check every confirmed address on the Paypal invoice? I thought we could just send to them.
I called eBay, and they checked the buyers shipping address, and sure enough there was a line with the street address missing. Hi wrote to her for me and told her that, but she didn't beleive him either. They told me that I was not responsible to refund the shipping because the mistake was hers. Then she filed a Paypal claim against me, and guess what, there at the top of th page is the incomplete address for shipping! My problem is I can't prove I mailed it, we just don't have tracking and shipping confirmation on letter mail and small packages in Canada. I guess if it is returned, I can photograph it and send the picture to Paypal

Amber, it will likely be delivered since it is going to a business address. There is just a delay until someone finds time to correct the address error and reroute it.

Then again, maybe you triggered a terrorist alert by sending an incorrectly labeled package to a library and the package is now stuck in a bin at the FBI.

Tom, I don't bother to check addresses any longer. PP says I am covered if I ship to the address on the transaction and I will hold them to it if there is a problem.

I use PP shipping so I do not make addressing errors. Whatever the buyer enters with their payment is what will be on the label. If buyer asks me to ship to another address, I refund their payment and tell them to enter the correct info when they repay. I've had a few whiners but not many.

LtRay, that was the address that the buyer had put in for their shipping address, it was they who had missed off the line with the street and #, so I mailed it to the address that they gave, she just won't believe it was wrong. It is so frustating. I had a bad day yesterday, spent hours on this transaction, then last night I got a feedback that said "We thought we were buying 6 dresses not the patterns". I just knew my star ratings would be down, and sure enough, all have shot down, so that now I lose my discount and my higher place in the searches. They bought a book of Barbie doll crochet patterns, it was listed under crochet patterns, I put crochet patterns in the title, I said that it was a booklet of crochet patterns, and that the booklet was in good condition. Then as always I put that THIS AUCTION IS FOR THE PATTERNS NOT THE ITEMS SHOWN. That was about the last straw at about 9 p.m., I had started working at 6 a.m. and apart from going out to vote, I had hardly left my computer. I went to bed feeling like throwing it all in. I try so hard to do everything right, I scan loads of pictures, I write full descriptions and try to be as accurate as possible, I only mail to the address on Paypal invoice and I paste and copy that to make sure it's correct, and then I get all this hassle. It just isn't fair, sellers are being held over a barrel and we get no recourse. I'm going to call and complain today, it won't do anything, but maybe it will make me feel better.

With international sales, you are only protected by the seller protection policy for items shipped to Canada and the UK. When sending to those two countries, I always get a Certificate of Mailing. It's inexpensive and I have used it for an item shipped to the UK. Got my money back. If they file with PayPal, you are likely to lose the dispute. Your best bet would be to refund and ask that they repay you when the item arrives. I've never had a customer not do that when I've refunded. Most are honest.

I hope all works out for you!!!!!!!!

The reason to verify that an address is VALID via the USPS AMS has nothing to do with PayPal...

The resaon to do so is to ensure that one's shipment can be delivered!

Another thing to remember is that many folks (especially in ruralk areas) have TWO addresses!
ONE is a STREET ADDRESS that is VALID for UPS but UNDELIVERABLE for the USPS; and they have ANOTHER address (PO BIOX) which is VALID for the USPS & INVALID for UPS...

Cheryl: I am shipping FROM Canada, and we just don't have the same certificate of mailing, and tracking that you have in the US, so every time there is a chargeback, I am pooched!

Amber,
what I do is to take out insurance with U-PIC or DSI and have the claim $$ sent to me if shipment is damaged or not delivered.
