Who is using GoogleCheckout? Are you/have you used it with ebay in the past?

I signed up for GoogleCheckout today, so as use it with my stores at Vendio, and StampWants. I know that I can't use it with ebay - or can I?

I am using it on other sites (ecrater for one). I have had a few sales there and it seems to work pretty easily. As for eBay...yeah right...it is like typing WESTERN UNION - LIKE NEW - CASH in your auction...eBay bots will zap it real quick.

Stonecold uses it. I'm not sure if he directs eBay buyers there through email or not.

I wouldn't bother with Google Checkout. It is generally conceded to be a failure and holds a miniscule percentage of the online payments business.

Worse, some of your buyers are going to object if you try to foist it on them. Buying on eBay today is all about incentives. For Microsoft Live Cashback, eBay Bucks and those yummy PayPal coupons you sometimes get when a transaction goes south you *must* checkout with PayPal.

Once when someone told me she has problem using PAYPAL,I just sent her a Google invoice, and it works out fine .
So for us,it is a free backup.Propay is another option but we have to pay an annual fee to use it.

I love Goggle Checkout. Lower fees. Plenty of my buyers like it too. The majority of my ecrater buyers use it and I have had less non-payers there since I started offering it. For some reason though, the Google checkout orders are not getting updated on ecrater so I have to manually adjust inventory there.

For direct sale customers, I offer them a choice of PayPal invoice or Google Checkout and a they usually request Google Checkout. Many people just do not like using PayPal.

For ebay customers who contact me for alternate payments, I offer them money order, check or a google invoice. You might be srprised at the number who ask for the invoice. They appreciate the convenience. Many HATE PayPal and refuse to use it.

I do not advertise on eBay that I accept Google checkout but many more people are asking now.

I have never had a problem with GC but that could be because I keep the shipping info updated with tracking info. Only negative I have encountered is Google still charges if you refund partial or full payment.

I also love Google Checkout. I have used it for almost 2 years and have had numerous payments go thru, never a problem. I really doubt it is known as a failure. PROVE IT, fluff. No, ebay won't allow you to accept it because they want everyone to use paypal.

"I still stand by my comments on Google Checkout… it doesn’t work. One failure is one failure too many when you are dealing with online purchases, and we are four days after my original order was placed and my order is in stalemate."

http://www.codeandcoffee.com/2007/01/25/google-checkout-sucks-paypal-has-no-worries-conclusion/

"The company’s much ballyhooed Goggle Checkout, however, is proving to be not only another failed Google attempt at diversification, but, more significantly, a strategic miscalculation that risks alienating Google advertisers, turning off Google users and souring its relationship with perhaps its biggest customer: eBay."

http://blogs.zdnet.com/micro-markets/?p=362

"The Seattle-based e-tailer describes its Checkout by Amazon as a "complete checkout solution" with features such as Amazon's "one-click" payment option and tools for managing shipping charges, sales tax and promotions. Google introduced a similar online payment processing system called Google Checkout in 2006, but analysts say it has been slow to catch on with merchants and consumers."

http://www.zdnetasia.com/news/internet/0,39044908,62044349,00.htm

"Google tried and failed"

"Can Amazon really take down PayPal, which is deeply embedded in online retailing with more than 62 million users? Skeptics cite the failure of Checkout, a Google (GOOG, news, msgs) payment system, to make any inroads as a reason to write off Amazon's attempt. If Google can't beat it, who can?

"Bring it on," scoffs one eBay fan in an online forum.

"But unlike Google, Amazon already has a relationship with millions of consumers. "We think that the competitive threat to PayPal may be much more serious this time around, given Amazon's e-commerce expertise for more than a decade," Deutsche Bank analyst Jeetil Patel says. "Amazon's customer base is roughly 80 million consumers, the bulk of which enjoy a highly trusted relationship with the company around payments."

You certainly do not embarrass me (You couldn't even though you have tried). I have used it for almost 2 years and it is great. If you don't like it, so what? Paypal is not perfect as we all know and what is wrong with an alternative? Most of the time you are an ebay cheerleader and then you go off bragging about an unknown website and that you are done with ebay and then you are defending Goliath again. You, fluffy are wish-washy and that is a nice way of putting it. Your opinion is just that, not any more important than anyone elses. I know that hurts but so be it.

Wow, fluffy! I just clicked your links. You are stretching, not really a very good search – you can do better.

The code and coffee was dated: January 25, 2007

The Blogs ZD net was dated: August 21, 2006

Your last link about google does not take into effect that there were thousands didn't trust paypal when they launched. Trust takes time and google check-out is still new.

Having launched in Summer of 2006, what year did paypal launch? Hint...(A LONG TIME AGO).

Once again, you have embarrassed yourself. Bring anything else you got! LOL

I like Google checkout, too. I've never had one customer complain about using it.

Cheryl
Whitman said she and McCain share a philosophy of scaling back the role of government. a point of view partly shaped by her EBay experience. "The EBay model is very Republican in its essence -- it's about making a small number of rules and getting out of the way while not overtaxing the community," she said.

Thanks for all the input. I am going to add GoogleCheckout payments to what is developing as my main store - my Vendio Store at kozersky.com. The store will accept payment by check, money order, PayPal, ProPay, and GoogleCheckout.

I am also developing a store at StampWants, and have a small presence at Delcampe.com. Those two stores will only offer PayPal, check, and money orders. While the ebay store is limited to PayPal, and ProPay.

fluff, thanks for your input. It is always welcome. Helps me in the decision process, as I would never locate the information you provide.

We have been international beta testers for Google Checkout for the past two years and can happily report that it really does work very well. Unlike PayPal, Google Checkout normally does flag or reject "suspect" payments so you aren't lumbered with chargebacks down the track. If you monitor the website seller forums you'll see that most prefer it over PayPal given the better up-front protection and lower fees. Another nice feature is that international customers can also use their debit card so the payment is essentially made as cash (rather than credit) which we expect will prove useful over the coming recessionary period. (We sell to a lot of cash rich economies where credit is still a "dirty" word.) Note that we no longer sell on eBay.com given their soon to be PayPal-only policy; we continue to sell on other international eBays, as well as Yahoo Japan, Mercados, Richardos, etc. and direct website orders (at discount prices)...

Here's what eBay has planned for the holiday season. Your buyers can't use Google Checkout with any of this. So indulge your fantasy all you like, but people buying from you (if any) are going to be using these incentives.

http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/ebay-to-offer-exceptional-deals,596699.shtml

SAN JOSE, Calif. - (Business Wire) Holiday shoppers will find exceptional deals on eBay (Nasdaq:EBAY) this year, thanks to a series of new initiatives debuting on Nov. 3 intended to help eBay be the destination for the best prices on the gifts people want most.

Shoppers can already find many of this season’s hottest new gifts on eBay at prices up to 30 percent below suggested retail prices, according to data tracking the site’s recent sales activity.1 And, by taking advantage of Microsoft Live Search cashback, shoppers can increase their holiday savings on eBay by up to 60 percent.

Information on all of eBay’s holiday deals will be featured on an eBay deals page located at www.ebay.com/deals, debuting on Nov.3. Among the featured offers are:

* Daily Deal: Beginning Nov. 3 for 45 days, a different product – from categories including electronics, sporting goods, video game accessories, DVD movies and home and garden – will be available each day at a fixed-price and deep discount off MSRP with free shipping. These limited-quantity items will be available daily by 3 p.m. EST.
* Bid From $1: Shoppers can bid on some of the hottest electronics all starting at $1 on eBay, by taking part in “Bid From $1” auction format series. From Nov. 3 to Dec. 17, thousands of new items such as MP3 players, GPS devices, cameras, video game consoles and video games will be offered in auction-style listings with $1 starting bids, no minimum final-price reserves and with free shipping.
* $1 Holiday Doorbuster: Each day from Nov. 24 to Dec. 8, the eBay site will offer $1 Doorbuster deals – limited quantities of two different items at a fixed-price of $1 and one surprise luxury item, also at a fixed-price of $1. Items will include popular toys and games, fashion accessories, sporting goods and electronics.
* Microsoft Live Search cashback: Shoppers who arrive at eBay through Microsoft Live Search (www.live.com) can receive up to 30 percent cash back on the purchase of any eligible fixed-price item when using a PayPal account through the Microsoft Live Search cashback program.2 That cash back, on top of eBay’s already low prices, can generate savings up to 60 percent total on many of the hot gift items available for sale across the site.3

“People constantly tell us that finding great deals is one of the reasons they love eBay,” said Stephanie Tilenius, general manager, eBay North America Marketplaces. “Shoppers will be exceptionally cost-conscious this holiday season, and we want everyone who is looking to save money to look no further than eBay to find all the gifts they want at the best prices around. There is simply no need for anyone to pay retail.”

In addition, shoppers will find over 3.5 million listings4 on eBay with free shipping this holiday, offering shoppers even more value. Free shipping and other deals can be combined with coupons for 10 percent off that will be issued to millions of qualified eBay buyers this season, through members’ “My eBay” accounts.5 At least 50 percent of the site’s inventory in gift-giving categories such as lifestyle and technology6 is new merchandise, ensuring gift givers can find what they’re looking for.

Sorry, I don't sell on ebay any more and others have alternatives as well. Ebay does not have a hold on some of us. Just curious...Fluff, are you still selling on ebay? If not, why not have another alternative payment such as google? I certainly would not base my opinions of it from years old posts.
