It's happened on more than one occasion and it's happening again. Relisted an item because the original bidder was an NPB...and the item is currently considerably higher than what the first final bid was. This has happened before where the relisted price was much higher than the first. As much as I hate NPBs, the ultimate result has been higher bids and final results the second time around. Relisting has seemed to be a better strategy than offering a second-chance offer (which has only resulted in one sale so far out of several offers). Anyone else had the same experience?

No,the second high bidder of the previous listing is now the final high bidder, she gets the item at the starting bid.

Rather than offering the item to the second bidder, it appears to be more profitable to simply relist the item.

Good for you Blueyes!

I can see why the relist strategy can work for the better. The first sale established the price someone was willing to pay so subsequent auctions could bring higher prices from other bidders looking for the same item.

There is also the clumsiness of ebay seach and you might have better visibility on the relist than you had on the original listing.

Either way, I rarely bother with second chance offers. Too few takers and waiting foe them to respond is annoying to me. I prefer to relist.

I sold a camera on eBay a while back. Buyer found a problem with it, so I refunded and relisted as Parts or Repair. It sold for $12.00 more the second time.

Happy Dance time...the item brought twice as much on the relist! I've only used the "second chance" a few times...and only had one successful acceptance. Never heard from any of the others. I agree...doesn't seem worth the trouble and time so it's relist from now on!

I've listed items, got no bids, lowered the price, and sold it for twice as much as the original starting bid. go figure.

Another bidding quirk...Several years ago, I had some antique lithograph flowers. I started them at $5.99 and got no bids. I posted on this board and a few checked out the auction. I was told to RAISE the price. I did...and they sold for more than the opening price. I was surprised but guess that falls under the "if it's more expensive, it must be better" kind of thinking. Given the auction format though, I thought that was odd.

Blueyes,

Some wise wag once said "you can't sell a $1 bottle of perfume, no matter how good it smells." Human nature won't trust some bargains.

I use the second chance offer when I think the selling price was on the high side.

It also helps to check the bid history and see how much the third highest bidder was willing to pay - if it was much, much lower, i send the 2nd chance offer, as I figure the selling price was not a result of its value, but rather a bidding war.
