I got this to work and can upload pics in bulk on my new $299 Vista laptop!

XP Web Photo Publishing Wizard - Hack for Vista
Microsoft claims to have discontinued the "Web Publishing Wizard" in Vista, but it turns out, they just renamed it. This wizard allows you to easily upload photos to Vendio.

Hello,

Thank you again! I am checking with our engineers to see if this can be written into the executable file, or if the workaround will need to be done manually.

Regards,
Nathan

I got the installer downloaded but when I run it seems like nothing happens. I don't know where to go to find the .reg file. Vendio Xpress publisher installer package is on my computer but I can't find the actual program anywhere. Can you make any suggestions? Thanks.

Hello Queenofcollectibles,

If you downloaded the XPress Image Publisher and clicked to install, you may have successfully installed it. This feature is only a line of text that goes in the registry so there's no installation process like with an actual application.

As for where to find it, I am not sure. It is difficult for me to give you the correct answer as I am not using a Windows Vista machine.

Regards,
Nathan

This will tell you how to find the registry: http://www.xp-vista.com/troubleshooting/how-to-edit-registry-key-regkey-in-windows-xp-or-vista Control F will let you search for Vendio. I had trouble figuring out how to edit it, I ended up saving the vendio file to my documents, edited the key with a text editor, saving it, then saving it to the registry. Bass-ackward but it worked.

Did you know that you can run .exe applications in XP-mode on Vista? After trying all day to get my scanner drivers on my new computer (the set-up programs are incompatible with Vista), I found that by right clicking on setup.exe and clicking on properties - a compatibility tab came up that allowed me to check 'run this program in XP-mode'. As my friend, Larry used to say, "wunnerful, wunnerful"!

That is good to know Pixia. I have a scanner that I only use when we are traveling and had not bothered to set it up because I knew the driver was not Vista compatible. I will have to give it a try. Thanks!

Nathan,

I could not get pixiamom's plan to work for me....I tried for hours but couldn't find the file to edit. I can see how convenient it would be if the Vendio option for uploading was in the order prints section of Photo Gallery. I use Picasa by Google for image editing and they have an option to order prints as well as an export option. Is there anyway Vendio could get Picasa to upload the pictures to Vendio image hosting? Just a thought.

Did you try searching for regedit from the start menu??

I did find the regedit and followed it through - but now I'm stumped, I don't know what to do now that I'm at the end of the branch at the Vendio leaf. I thought I was more computer savvy than this!...Guess not! lol!

Pixi....I appreciate your help with this....I tried your last suggestion 3 times and all three times I got a Registry Editor error: Cannot import C:\users\Donna\Desktop\vendioreg.reg The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor. I've just been using my old computer with XP to upload to vendio. I use the Vista computer to edit the pictures, then send them to a flash drive, put it in my old laptop and shoot them to Vendio. Then I can go back and list on the Vista computer. It would be great to be able to do it straight from Vista and I've tried the Sales Manager Pro deal but that is not a great way to do it. Hopefully Vendio can come up with something. Your instructions sound like they should be a slam dunk but my computer doesn't seem to like them.

3. In the left frame, find and single click on InternetPhotoPrinting
4, On top menu click Edit>New>Key
5. Name the key Providers
6. Single Click the new Providers Key

10. From the top menu select Edit>New>String Value
11. Name the new string value Description
12. Single click the string Description
13. From the top menu click Edit>Modify
14. In the value field, type Upload images to Vendio
15. In the left frame, single click on the key Vendio
16. From the top menu select Edit>New>String Value
17. Name the new string DisplayName
18. Single click the string DisplayName
19. From the top menu click Edit>Modify
20. In the value field, type Vendio Image Hosting
21.. In the left frame, single click on the key Vendio
22. From the top menu select Edit>New>String Value
23. Name the new string IconPath
24. Single click the string IconPath
25. From the top menu click Edit>Modify
26. In the value field, type or paste %APPDATA%\\Vendio\\awlogo32.ico
27.. In the left frame, single click on the key Vendio
28. From the top menu select Edit>New>String Value

30. Single click the string HREF
31. From the top menu click Edit>Modify
32. In the value field, type or paste http://www.vendio.com/my/client/xp_wizard_step1.html
33. Close regedit

When you want to upload:
1. From the Start Menu, Go to Windows Photo Gallery
2. In the left frame, double click on the folder you want to upload
3. Highlight all the pictures you want to upload

This will bring up the log in screen

Oh my gosh! I saw your post and couldn't believe you took all the time to do that! I would have NEVER figured it out. I followed the instructions, opened photo gallery, selected order prints and was so excited when I saw the Vendio logo in the list. I clicked on it, it highlighted and I clicked send. Then I got this error message - Web Service Error A conncection to the internet could not be found, r the printing company tried to display an invalid page. Check your internet settings, try again.....blah, blah, blah or try a different printing company. Well, I know I have an internet connection and the page it's trying to display is probably the login page you mentioned. I can't get past this - any suggestions? Thanks so much - so close..........

I'm out of ideas, except double check the HREF key's value to make sure it is exactly as shown. Vendio really should be able to provide Vista users a publisher. Editing the registry is risky and unless Vendio is contemplating shutting down, they need to address the Vista issue sooner or later. It's not that difficult.

Just a guess - could it be a firewall? I seem to remember when I visited my mom and tried to publish (the old fashioned way in xp) I had a similar problem and it cleared up when I disabled the firewall.

You're more than welcome. I didn't invent the fix, just surfed and found others who shared it.

Pixia.
I see you have had an excellent example of how much "fun" it is to work with Vista.

They call it progress, sometimes I wonder

My Vista computer continues to be problematic. Since purchasing it in August I have yet to be able to upload through SMP,which I use exclusively. I have been working the problem with Vendio Eng. We have tried patches/fixes. There appear to be versions of Vista that work but mine (Home Edition Deluxe) doesn't. I also use my XP computer to upload SMP 7.1.4 (with firewall disabled). Much work needs to be done at Vendio. Chuck
