After 24 straight hours of snow in Ontario Canada, this is what the black walnut tree just outside our front porch looks like this morning.

There is about 8" of snow sitting up on the little thin twigs, I have no idea how it is staying in place, but it looks gorgeous.

Yes, it's early to have so much, which is why it is wet, heavy snow that sticks to everything. All day yesterday it accumulated on our television satellite dish, and my husband had to keep going out with a long pole and scrape it off so that we could get the signal back.

I'm freezing in Florida but that is beautiful Amber. I could look at that all day (in front of a big fire, of course)

Hi, Amber! We have three Alberta clippers in a row this week courtesy of Canada. LOL! There's no snow on the ground here. Most of the snow went to the east side of Cleveland known as the snow belt. Fortunately, even though I'm near the lake I'm at the lower part, which misses the big lake effect snows. We still get our share, just not as much. No snow. . .just COLD!

Cheryl
Whitman said she and McCain share a philosophy of scaling back the role of government. a point of view partly shaped by her EBay experience. "The EBay model is very Republican in its essence -- it's about making a small number of rules and getting out of the way while not overtaxing the community," she said.

It's actually not that cold here--yet, right around freezing. The snow looks lovely, but is wet and heavy, and every year there are reports of people having heart attacks trying to clear their drives etc. Some have to get up on thier roofs to clear it to prevent them caving last. Last year, a whole store roof collapsed near us, thankfully during the night.

Snow?! Shut UP! We hit an all-time record in our mountain town at 6,000 feet today. 75 degrees. The leaves have turned, but no rain or snow has brought them down yet, so it's very pretty. I know the cold is coming; it's just very late this year.

Amber: Isn't that the same deck that you had your picture taken on, and then sent it to us when we were all sharing photos?

Just to make us feel better - in Barrow Alaska the sun will set today at 1:32 and not rise again until January 23!!

From Wikipedia:
"Temperatures remain below freezing from early October through late May. The high daily temperature is above freezing on an average of only 109 days per year. There are freezing temperatures on an average of 324 days per year"

and to make matters worse:
"In addition to the low temperatures and months without sun, Barrow is also one of the cloudiest places on earth. Owing to the prevailing easterly winds off the Arctic Ocean, Barrow is completely overcast slightly more than 50% of the year and at least 70% overcast 62% of the time. Cloud types are mainly low stratus and fog, cumuli forms are rare. Peak cloudiness occurs in August and September when the ocean is open. Dense fog occurs an average of 65 days per year, mostly in the summer months. Ice fog is very common during the winter months, especially when the temperature drops below -30 °F (- 34 °C)"

"July is the warmest month of the year with an average high of 46 °F (8 °C) and an average low temperature of 34 °F (1 °C)."

Barrow has about 4,000 residents - and another interesting fact from Wikipedia: "Barrow, like many communities in Alaska, has enacted a "damp" law prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, but allows for import, possession and consumption."

OMG - 65 days of darkness and you can't even get a drink!

Amber, when we were all giving photos of ourselves (about a year ago?), I printed them out, alphabetized them, stapled them together, and keep them on my desk. Occasionally I look at the picture of someone who has posted a message. And yours is on the top. I see that every day!
