I wonder if this is a way to get your items better visibility by using 'free shipping' when in fact there will be a cost? Is this O.K. by eBay rules? I bet not. Here is a quote from an auction. "Please note I have stated free shipping because I am unable to calculate shipping cost at this stage and Ebay requires this information in the listing. I have therefore opted for "free shipping" but shipping for this item will in fact be at cost and for US buyers is likely to be around USD15."

That is not okay! I would report the listing - obviously search manipulation.

Seller does not stand a chance of winning if buyer complains about the seller adding shipping costs after the close.

On the other hand, do you really want to open a dispute with a seller on an item that expensive and have it "accidently" arrive in shards?

I seriously doubt she can ship that platter from the UK for $15.

I'm not sure she was intentionally manipulating search but who knows? It is strange that her other listings do have US shipping rates.

Gone now. Not a good idea to list free shipping when you don't intend to honor it.

That will be one unhappy seller when she logs into her account today. Platter was about 340 last time I checked. Then again, her evil plan may have worked. I saw she had a similar plate so she will probably have no problems selling the platter outside of ebay and save herself some ebay fees.

IMHO, that is the problem with most of Ebay's new "rules," gimmicks, whatever. They lead to people figuring out a way around them, sometimes intentionally, sometimes purely by accident when they misunderstand the new "rules."

Didn't Ebay ever hear of KISS!!

Wow, I did not give out the number of the auction, you are super sleuths to find it! And I haven't had time to report it so someone else must have.

pretty easy to find an auction when you have a couple of dozen EXACT words embedded in the auction....just search title & description. I use it all the time to pull up certain auctions I may be selling for someone. Insert a REFERENCE Number and those will all appear when searching.

I have seen Chinese sellers offering free shipping with hefty insurance fee.

I have seen shipping "such and such" will let you know actual cost after I get zip code.

That seems outside the rules.

There are so many cracks and flaws to ebay's new rules. Ugh! It just frustrates me to the point where I am listing less and less.

It was just two years ago when I had 200+ auctions listed on any given week. That number is down to only 20, and that is if I even bother to list anything.

I think I used to sell almost $50-80K a year on ebay (I would have to go and pull my taxes to remember exactly how much). Now it's around 10-12K. How much money has ebay lost on just me???

What bothers me most is that ebay continues to make changes faster than their system can keep up. They throw these blanket rules upon every auction and restrict everything to the point that sellers are caught in a catch 22. No shipping options for Fed Ex on ebay's system, though Vendio provides it as a fixed price fee. You have to offer Paypal now, so even if the buyer tries to send payment using an unconfirmed account, and refuses to confirm it, you either ship it at your risk, or don't sell it... losing your listing fees. You can't even offer a safe alternative like a money order (I know safe means safe for the seller).

The only way to get the attention of ebay on these issues is for sellers to truly unite and boycott their system, or have a critical mass of sellers ignore their rules and create complete chaos and anarchy.
