When someone emails saying they do not have Paypal and want to pay using a money order?
I do not know what "Big Brother" will allow. Is it better for eBay to have a no sell then to lose the Paypal cut.
Seriously I have had several emails since the Paypal only is on my auctions. I do not know how to respond.

I know the logical response and what I want to say .... but do not want repercussions.

What do you guys say?

Thanks in advance

Hello,

From what eBay has stated, as long as the buyer initiated the request (and you did not offer it or hint it), then you are allowed to accept the money order as payment.

Regards,
Nathan

I've tried to eliminate the emails in my FAQs:

Q. What forms of payment do you accept?
A. Paypal is my preferred method of payment. Mail-in orders are always welcome. My address is:

Edited to add, EBay is inconsistent in explaining the enforcement of this rule. At times, they state that sellers may not offer alternative forms of payment, but may accept them. Other instances, they state that buyers may not purchase outside the perimeters. It's a very fine line.

All I am doing is including my address in my invoice since eBay conveniently (for them) removed that information a few weeks ago. I have had several requests for my address so buyer can pay by money order which is why I did that. I have not been shut down because I don't mention other methods of payment at all, just list my name and address in invoice. It seems to be working.

pmelcher, Thanks so much for the idea. I have a standard text I paste in ... well it has a new line in it now.

pixia - I think your FAQ may still be a little too explicit in referencing available payment options.

I just changed mine to:
1) what is your address?
A: My address for US mail communications (including returns) is:

I know it's ridiculous but I wouldn't put it past the creeps at eBay Gestapo to monitor every little facet of our businesses to see if we are violating their INSANE payment policy.

The thing that scares me is that I have seen a copy of some automatic notice I have sent at the end of the auction (buyers will respond to it when they email me directly) that states that I accept checks and money orders but I can't find it! It isn't one of the notices I send via Marketing Preferences! Could it be the old EOA notice from PayPal? I thought they discontinued it.

I had put in my shipping information that I can only accept Paypal, now I have taken that out. I am surprised at how many buyers have asked to send money orders, I wonder if they even look at the options?

I also have started two folders (one in my email account and another in the eBay messages) to "file" all of the requests to mail in payment. I want to be covered in case questions are asked later on. I think the ebay message goes away after 30 days so probably the email folder would be the one I would use to defend myself.

Here is an interesting thing to look at..

Go to any listing and click to see the 'New Version"...scroll down and click on the Shipping and Handling tab.

In three places it mentions 'Cleared payment'...click on there and read what eBay says about payment methods!

Give them some snarky Feedback on their new page...I did!

I just noticed that you don't even have to go to the new listing page. I looked at one of my listings and scrolled down to where it has the Number of Days Handling time and beside that there is a clickable link to 'Receiving Cleared payment'.
It again gives a full explanation of it to the Buyer and tells them that if they paid by Money Order or Cheque the parcel won't be mailed until the seller receives it!

SO....they are enforcing the rules on the Sellers but have not taken the wording out of our listings! Shame on them!!

Maybe it is our turn to penalise them and tell them that we are suspending paying our Fees until they learn to be a better Venue! LOL..
