So, I just signed onto my ebay account and received a notice for an "item not as described" complaint. It was something sold on October 31. Just as I was about to respond, I decided to check my emails and this is what I received from the bidder.

"Sorry I haven't contacted you about the jersey sooner, but I finally gave it as a gift and it's a counterfit. Nike doesn't make jerseys with "DriFit" screen-printed on. Also the Brazil logo is sloppily sewed in on the inside. If you refuse to refund my money (as your selling details say you most likely will) I will have to contact eBay and PayPal about my money and leave negative feedback. Thanks for any help you may provide."

My auction clearly states that none of the printing is screenprinted, so his claim that it is is completely false. Screenprinting is when it is applied to the top of the fabric. All of the letters and logos are part of the fabric. Not to mention the close up of the size tag clearly shows it to be Nike. The tag indicates this was made in Brazil, and it being a Brazilian soccer jersey... you tell me what you think. I should mention also that this was purchased a few years ago at the Nike store here in Portland... home of Nike.

I should add... he filed the claim via ebay, not paypal.

I believe he has to file a claim with paypal today (or 45 days from payment) if he wants to try to get his money back. If he does that, you may have to prove it's not counterfeit or he will get to keep the jersey and get his money back.
I think if it was me, I would tell him to send it back for a refund. At least that way you can resell it and may not get a negative.
Sounds like a buyer trying to do his Christmas shopping at your expense.

If yours is fake, here's another just like it:

The thing is that if you look at the closeup of the size tag you can tell this isn't a fake. I have never seen a fake using a tag like that... and I have seen some fakes in my time. Not to mention that I purchased it directly from the Nike store about a mile from where I live. So, if it is a fake, then obviously Nike is selling fakes of their own clothing. Go figure.

Maybe you should contact the store that you got it from and ask if they will give you a statement that it isn't counterfeit.
How rude would it be to give a gift and have the person tell you that your gift was counterfeiter??? So what then - they gave it back to him? Right - maybe you should call his bluff.

Did you save your receipt from the Nike store?

I purchased it over a year ago, maybe even two... can you imagine walking into a Nike store and asking the clerk for a letter of authentication for a soccer jersey that was worn and over a year old? lol.

I know that may not have been obvious, but I still think it would be funny, especially the look on their face. Most of the people working at Nike are in late high school or first year of community college.

He says it is screen-printed but looking at your photos it is very obvious that it is woven into the fabric.
He is really trying to keep the sweater and get his money back too.

I agree that you should call his bluff; could you maybe suggest that you are so concerned about his actions as you are and always have been 100% honest in your dealings and that you are going to contact eBay and PayPal yourself and will be sending them your photos so they can make a decision ahead of time and so that they will be fully prepared when they receive his complaint.

Something along those lines anyway!

I'm sorry - I think it's screen printed.

There are different inks and some lay on top of the fabrics and some would appear to be part of the fabric. It would be almost impossible for this to be anything else given the market. I spent several years working in the screen printing business and I admit I could be wrong.........

I would gently explain that whoever told him it is counterfeit is mistaken. You know this, not because you are a Nike expert, but because you bought it new at the Nike store. Also send him Neglus' link to an identical Nike shirt. If the buyer is decent, he'll accept your explanation. If he's a jerk, at least you have your emails as a back-up for any PayPal/EBay dispute.

..glassgrl..Thank you for explaining that process, I had no idea that it could look as though it is woven in.

pixiamom...Your idea is far more rational than mine. I think I have been reading so many horror stories about some buyers that even though, so far, I have not been a victim of this type of thing, I am getting very defensive on the part of Sellers and I just thought my idea was kinda neat.

NOW..if it were MY buyer then I would never do what I suggested because I wouldn't have the nerve (read guts) to do such a thing.

I don't see the word "drifit" printed on my example. If that's the main argument, then I don't think my example will persuade him after all.
