A few weeks ago I listed a Fire King mug on ebay that ended two Sundays ago. It was in perfect condition. Starting price: 99 cents. It sold for $140+ to someone in Japan. No complaints.

I have an identical mug, but it has a crack on the bottom. I listed it this week and it had no bids until yesterday. One bid: 99 cents. I figured, it is damaged, the auction states it, and even has two photos. I just logged on and it is up to $82.00!!! The two high bidders are from Japan and I wonder if they even understand the description or saw the photos of the crack. Unbelievable.

Anyone have experience with people filing "not as described" for something like this if it is a language barrier? I know some sites use translators, but I'm just curious what happens if there is a problem.

Common concern. I sold a fine porcelain cherub piece a few years ago. The quality was appearant but it was an unmarked piece and it had some damage such as missing finger tips and leaf chips. Listed it expecting to get $15 or so. It went for $90+ to a buyer in Spain. Postage was $60 or $70 dollars. Buyer spoke (wrote) very little english and I used Babblefish for correspondence. I was uneasy until feedback was received.

Listing had plenty of pictures of the damage so I guess he had placed his bid from the visuals. He left glowing feedback when he received it.

When selling damaged items, I usually edit my pictures and draw arros and cirles to clearly point to the damage. CYA

Hopefully your cup transaction will go through the same company you dealt with last time. Didn't they leave feedback as soon as they paid?

When they file with paypal not as described
paypal takes your money out of your account and holds it until the claim is completed.

The buyer will have to send your items back at there expense with tracking. When paypal knows the items arrived then they issue the refund to the buyer.

It seems that any buyer can say the item is not as described and paypal will refund there money once they send the items back. Even if the item is AS Described it makes no difference to paypal as long as the buyer sends them back at there expense.

This happened to me with Sterling Jewelry marked sterling/925. Buyer said it was not sterling so paypal took 170.00 out of my account and the buyer from France had to pay to return the items to me. Then paypal gave her the 170.00, case closed.

I used to sell damaged items (antiques)all the time but now I'm rethinking this or at least for ebay.
Buyers are no longer require to read the description.
However I've always loved buyers in Japan. They are good buyers for the most part.
