If it's computer hardware you are looking at, again it is usually items sold to computer manufacturers, so the main thing to know is that they will not include any cords, connectors or manuals.

OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer. This is an important designation b/c many people want an item that is original to the item.
Car Parts- I would never buy something NOT OEM.
Ink/Toner Cartridges- People prefer to buy the OEM toner that makes the printer. Match HP toner to an HP printer.
Software- What was originally installed on the computer.
There are many uses, but most always OEM commands higher prices, oftentimes 2 to 10 times, if not higher for really rare things.
