I have not listed in a year. Before that and for the last 3 years, I only listed on cheap listing days.

I'm still listing but I know of 2 or 3 people who have given up.
My DH says I just have to get a thicker skin with all these new (unfair to sellers) rules.
I guess that true but there is much more to it now. These days, I don't spend the money until I heard that the buyer is happy.
I'm reviewing my options for the new year.

There are a lot less buyers, I think.
ebay used to be fun, but not so much now thanks to on-going changes (hidden identities, payment methods policies, general restrictions, etc...)

We are listing a few auctions or fixed price items every month to feed traffic to our website. Seems to be working as our website access logs show most of our sales traffic come from the various international eBays.
Our website prices are cheaper than those we list on eBay and we point out the reason - "buy direct and cut out the middlemen (aka eBay/PayPal)". Also on keyword-related Google searches our website is on the first page (usually in the first five), the result of good SEO and a long-term web presence.

I am pretty much doing what deichen is. I am also only going to list on the special listing days from now on, with the exception of Christmas season.
Although, this latest reduced fee session is a joke. Get a reduced fee unless you would like your item in a catagory. Yah right.
I will keep all of my items on my website plus epier and ebid.net. If I happen to find a reasonable other venue, I will do that too. Then when and/or if eBay tosses us a bone, I will list with them.
What really blows about what eBay did this year is they took all of the after Christmas sales that many of us sellers depended upon and tossed them right out the window. Frankly that makes it tough to justify continuing listing with eBay.

I don't know any sellers who've given up on eBay selling, but I've been entertaining that thought for quite some time now.
I did, however, hear from a buyer yesterday who said she's closing her eBay account because she can't stand PayPal. I wrote and reminded her that, while we can't request checks or money orders, the buyer can ask the seller. She was relieved.

I used to list 100-200 items a week! Now it is is 30 at any given week, but I don't always list. Generally twice a month for week longs or if I find something that can make me a quick buck... or when I am desperate for some cash flow (which seldom happens- lol).
My plan this year is to have a new website set up for many items and use ebay only to drive traffic to the site. I am also looking at increasing our marketing for our storefront and being more aggressive in pricing. We've already started our January off in 6 days at half of what we sold the entire month of December in the store. Of course, being closed for the horrid snow storm and the lack of foot traffic the week before Christmas and after really hurt due to the weather. Now we can expect flooding. Yeah!

I was with ebay since 1996... made it to the shooting star level... had the silver powerseller rating... and absolutely couldn't stand dealing with eBay anymore. I sold in two areas... photography accessories and vintage advertising. I liquidated all my photography accessories and now just concentrate on the advertising. I haven't listed on ebay since October, and do not plan to ever return. My ads are much easier and more profitable to sell on my own website... and this December I had my best sales month ever.
Also.. not only am I not on eBay... I no longer encourage acquaintances to shop there... but rather recommend Amazon and other sites. I think eBay is in a tailspin, and about to crash...

Several of my friends and acquaintances have given up totally but one friend has increased her selling and is doing quite well selling mostly Fixed Price.
I don't have the knowledge to do my own website and as I don't do this as a full time business I don't have the desire to spend a lot of money trying!
I am going to close my eBay Store towards the end of January and try the new Auctiva eCommerce stores but still run auctions on eBay and maybe Fixed price which I am actually doing quite well on. I don't have as much fun doing it as I used to and certainly I don't have the sales that we had a few years ago but as we retired early...it keeps my brain engaged!

Try an ecrater store then. It ends up being your own website. It doesn't cost you anything and best of all, a caveman can do it. In other words. It is very easy to set up and I sure am glad I did it. Sales are decent, not going to retire on them just yet, but at least you are in control of all aspects of your website.

eCrater is free, I recommend it also. Preferred payment on it is Google Checkout (I highly recommend it). Like Stone said, you won't retire on it but sales are decent. Very simple to set up and manage.

Next questions! Can I still use Vendio for listing and uploading? And could one of you give me a link to your website on ecrater?

I haven't been "active" on eBay for over two years. I listed a few pins a year ago that just did so-so. My husband passed away a few months ago, and I supposed I will eventually try to get back into the swing of things just to keep busy. He had a huge postcard collection that could keep me going for years. Like others said, it's more of a job now instead of being fun like it used to. For many years it was the highlight of our Sunday evening watching our auctions close. We only listed once a week and then only a dozen items or so. I miss the fun part.

Stone: What is the cost to have a store in eCrater?
Yes, it's free. There are some un-needed extras if you would like for a fee, but no need for them.
Vendio does not work with ecrater, but you won't need it. You do have to load each item in individually, at least I did, but once you item is there, it is there until it's sold or you remove it. Even after it's sold, it will still be there, just not visible to buyers.
Their checkout is top notch and will allow you to accept any type of payment you wish. Keep in mind, even though it is via ecrater, it is still your own website.
It will probably take you a couple of days to truely get set up (most of the time will be getting yourself familiar with the way the system works). They will even give you instructions on how to set up your google checkout account, which is 1000 times easier than PayPal.
Here are some sites.
http://loveghibli.ecrater.com
http://henhousegiftsandcollectibles.ecrater.com
http://hickorycreekrusticstoreandmore.ecrater.com
Or you can search from ecrater's home page at: www.ecrater.com
if you wish to search for an item through anyones website. If you find that item, then you will be on that person's website.

As Stone said below,my best,by thousands, month of the year in terms of sales has been January with ebays sale booster after Christmas. I was ready this year and chose not to list one item. I had 500 sales ready to go.I MAY throw a few things on sometime this month, but ebay for me has become a burden not a pleasure. AND certainly not a place to make the money I made for years.

Bruce (emovieposter.com) did and reports back on Auctionbytes about success in running his own auctions.
He was the guy who gave away free t-shirts with his Halloween auction posters. Sometimes he gives away his $25 books.

There are just too many sellers and not enough buyers on Ebay.
Ebay needs to revamp its model so less transactions, less sellers could mean better profit for both Ebay and its sellers.

Other large sellers who've left eBay, either entirely or dropped their listing count by 75% or more:
AACS Autographs
Debnroo
RGelber/TreasuredFinds
HessFineAuctions (debuting on the Web this month)
Portero
There are many others; these are just ones off the top of my head. Bruce Hershenson isn't alone by any means.
Is there any interest in shopping with merchants who've left eBay? In other words, should I set up a Good-Riddance-to-eBay Web ring?
