Never bought anything from Canada before but found an item I was looking for at a great price on Ebay. Seller sent a Canada Post tracking number. Canada Post says the shipment has "arrived in the destination country". I tried the same tracking number at USPS; it works, but according to them the package is "being prepared for shipment by the sender" or something like that.
Maybe it's just a case of USPS being behind in updating progress. It's only been less than a week, just a new process for me. Don't worry, I'm not going to nag the seller.

Sorry to tell you that our (Canadian)tracking numbers only go as far as the border. After that, we can find out if it has arrived at it's destination, but nothing in between.

Well, the GOOD news is that you know that the Seller mailed it and that it has made the transfer from Canada Post to USPS.
I don't know the size of your package but we always quote our buyers a 10-14 Business Days window of time for delivery from where we are in Western Canada to the US.
In our experience parcels going down the Western US corridor ( basically the I5 route) take 3-4 days whereas parcels travelling across our vast continent to the Eastern areas can take a full 10-14 days.

Thanks for the information. I was surprised to see that the tracking number was even accepted by USPS. The package is a shoe box sized item. I have shipped several items to CA and it always seemed to be a pretty long time before they arrived.

I had a similar package come in last month. It tracked the same way until I received it, showing as "being prepared for shipment by the sender" until it was actually delivered. Then the USPS website showed as delivered.

Come to think of it, isn't USPS fairly slow in updating their tracking information? I seem to recall that it's been fairly useless in the past no matter where stuff was coming from.

The USPS Tracking does seem very 'spotty' to say the least. It seems to not track it's progress once it crosses from Canada Post to the USPS.
We sent a parcel from here (British Columbia) a couple of weeks ago in the afternoon and it showed reaching the US Border at midnight that same day. It never showed another thing until we suddenly got feedback from the Buyer in New York. We checked back in on the number and it showed Delivered!

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

USPS will no longer scan items with delivery confirmation until they are delivered - they say it is because delivery confirmation is for just that - not a tracking number. They no longer scan upon shipping nor along the way - there was a memo out to all Post offices saying they were not to do so - too time consuming. US packages will only show postage printed and then package delivered - some may still be scanning because they don't know this - but they will eventually stop.
