The lot of you seem to be very good at not only ID'ing product, but also offering insight, and ideas if a positive ID can't be made.

I bought this a while ago, and still have no idea who manufactured it. I always thought it odd, as the stamp is very defined, but I've searched for "V" stamps on pottery ever since I bought this, and still no luck.

Also, anyone know why a circular sponge would be stuffed into the lid, I'm guessing this particular piece (as a whole) serves a purpose I'm unaware of.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

How big is it? My first thought was sugar bowl and the sponge would be to absorb moisture so that the sugar doesn't clump.

I don't have it with me to measure, but I believe the functional part is about 6" high, no taller than 7".

Your purpose for the sponge is interesting, I hadn't thought of that. I wonder if it would be effective regardless of what was inside.

My GUESS would be a tobacco humidor. A sponge to retain moisture would make a mess out of sugar.

Alright, so Max40 is right on the money! This is a tobacco humidor, very cool, thanks for that Max40.

Now...on to that elusive "V" stamp...any ideas...

I don't have a encyclopedia of modern european marks. Best guess on age would be 1970's.

Yeah, the colors scream 70's, but the design said 50's to me. That's why I bought it, I really dig on 50's design.

The most popular company with the V is SUMMIT ART. They bought a couple of other companies. They did use a Vin a circle. So did others besides Summit. Good luck.

Bluefalcon, I do not know the maker but it might also be a tea caddy. Love the lines. Definetly mid-century. How 'bout it Shagimod?

Identifying modern European pottery and ceramics (France, Germany, etc) is a major pain for those of us in the US and I have not found many websites that address the more modern euro marks.

I am surprised some of our European lurkers have not chimed in. Come on, we know you are reading this
