I need a new camera for eBay and would appreciate some help. I have had 2 Sony Mavica cameras a FD73 and a FD75 and was happy with both. I purchased a new computer this week and since they no longer come with the floppy drive I thought it might be a good time to update my camera.
I do not do eBay as much as years ago but still take 300-400 photos a month. It would need to be able to zoom in for 1/16" lettering or to see a thin crack in old metal.

I've been using a Cannon PowerShot A560 for a while now that I REALLY like. Super simple piece to use with really nice detail. Macro works great when I am shooting jewelry. I've enjoyed the heck out of it and more importantly... I don't remember ever cursing it which I did on a fairly regular basis with both the old Sony Mavica and the Nikon Coolpix 990 I used in the past.

Or you could purchase a USB driven external floppy drive for $30-$40.
I have purchased 2 highline cameras since I bought my Mavica, but still use the Mavica for eBay. Nothing is simpler.

When I bought my new computer, I did what Max did and bought an external floppy drive...I STILL love my Mavica and have an extra one if/when my original one bites the dust.

I would buy an external USB floppy drive. I have one, and it works just great. My original FD83 finally has stopped working well (it doesn't focus that well anymore) after 12 years of service and I don't know how many pictures. I have a few other mavicas I've picked up over the past year at flea markets for about $25 each. When I had my computer built a couple of years ago, I made sure I would get a floppy drive, but the only thing I use it for is for the digital pictures. My next computer won't have a floppy drive, I will just use the external USB drive I have. It's a great ebay camera, I wouldn't change it, just add the USB drive.

I use a Mavica FD-92 which uses a momery stick or a floppy. The momery stick is so much faster that I won't ever to back to a floppy full time. However it is nice to have the option. I use an external Floppy Drive as well.

why hang on to old memory lane/floppy disk?
Use memory stick now that you have a new PC.
I have a Nikon and I use a Sandisk Image mate CF reader for my Nikon memory card.
It is light,small and cheap!

Two of my new mavicas are dual media, and have the memory stick USB option. I've used it and it works just fine. When I have a lot of pictures to take, I use that option. When I just have a few, I stick with the floppy as it is actually faster than plugging in the USB cord and transferring the pics. I like having the option of both though, something I didn't have with my older mavica.

These camera threads come up from time to time and what happens is that everyone loves their own camera, while despising all else.
I honestly don't think you can go far wrong these days buying a digital camera, as long as you make sure it has the features you want. I like a big LCD screen.
I'm still using my workhorse Fuji FinePix E500 after six years. Works great, but I have a Panasonic digital camera stashed in the closet for the day the Fuji dies.

When I had my latest computer built, I had a floppy drive put in, externals work great (my husband has one). I still use my Mavica for items I am selling because my Canon and Nikon make the pictures too big and I don't like messing with re-sizing.
Funny, I still have my original receipt from when we purchased the Mavica and we paid over $800.00 for it! 1.3 Megapixels!

You need to find the camera manual to resize it.
Or the instructions could be in your camera.

Thanks HWAHWA, I know how to resize, I use Photoshop, I just don't see the need to spend extra time on Auction pictures. I have an interest in Photo Manipulation (such as background changes, fairy wings, etc..., so I am not a novice.

Hello,
If you wanted an excuse to get a new digital camera for personal use, I say go for it!
But if you really are happy to use what you have, as it does work well enough for eBay, do what others are saying and just pick up a USB powered floppy drive.

NewEgg.com has this well reviewed one for just $22.99. There are cheaper ones both on newegg and on eBay that aren't quite as well reviewed overall.
Regards,
Chris

Anyone looking for quick and easy photo resizing should check out Picasa from Google. It's super easy to bulk resize images and even add watermarks automatically in the process. (not to mention all of the standard touchup tools, and direct integration to be able to email images, order prints, you name it it does it!)
