Why is eBay sending out MY invoices? Are they afraid I'll encourage buyers to send checks instead of using PayPal? I really resent their taking this upon themselves, since I can't see their invoices, don't know how friendly (or not) they are, and would like to use my own wording.

I just accepted an offer on a fixed price item and I didn't get this message.
But I see where someone else posted almost the same thing, so it's not just you.
I wonder if it's just auctions.

It seems that ebay is completely trying to run one's business, I had to quit ebay (selling) because of all of their rules.

Yeah, ebay was fun while it lasted I even made a little spending money. eBay will become an online market sellers will just stock the shelves.
I don't have a big investment in my remaining inventory and will drag it to a flea market what doesn't sell goes to the land fill!

Adele - I am not sure what you asking. Do you still have the "send invoice" button on your sold items? How do you know eBay is sending out your invoices? I still have a button to send mine manually.

Last evening the standard-looking message from eBay, with title of "Your eBay item just sold," was this:

"Congratulations! Your item just sold. An invoice to the buyer has
automatically been sent by eBay on your behalf. Please ship your item as
soon as possible after receiving cleared payment."

I've not seen that before. If they don't pay right away, on seeing that message, I guess I need to send my own invoice, worded the way I want. (Which I've done for three of my sales, already.)

I WANT to see what eBay is saying to MY BUYERS. How can I find this out?

I'm still having to manually send my invoices! Unless eBay wants to start paying me a salary, they need to keep out of my business. This is insane.

It's more likely that they will send you a bill for billing services rendered (wanted or not)

My end of auction notices are also saying that the invoice has been sent automatically on my auctions closing tonigh. I don't want this, a lot of my buyer bid on multiple items, and this way they are going to be paying multiple times. Does anyone know how to turn this off?

You can send a revised invoice. The most I could find out about how to turn off the automatic invoice is to disable checkout. I am not even sure you can do that anymore!

I won something today: Here's the first message I received. Note there's no shipping cost given, just the high bid.

It was a bit confusing, because I'd also received the End-of-Auction message (two messages, then, in a row). Here it is:

Congratulations, the item is yours!

Hi XXXXX,
Congratulations on winning this item! The next step is to pay the seller.

OK...I looked at my End of Auction Notices and saw this too.
I have just sent a steaming hot note to eBay asking how to switch off this nonsense.

I told them that it will do nothing to 'Enhance the Buyer experience' and will cause even more grief for the Sellers who combine shipping trying to explain this to the Buyers.

I would really suggest that those of you who are mighty Powerful Sellers all contact whomever your eBay contact person is and express your feelings....unless of course, you like th idea of eBay interfering with your business some more.

I really am looking for somewhere else to sell but being in Canada is a disadvantage as most other sites seem to be geared towards the United States. Suggestions welcomed.

Otteropp: If you get an answer on this, please share with us! I've asked a Vendio moderator to show me where to "disable Ebay checkout," in case that's the problem. Haven't gotten an answer quite yet.

I have always had checkout disabled, I checked again tonight, and it still is, so I don't think that is the answer. I am going to call eBay tomorrow and ask about it. I am imagining myself refunding multiple Paypal payments before I can get a revised shipping invoice out to the buyer.

I just got off the phone for the second time to eBay, and was told that "this is how the EOA notices have always been, and there is no way to turn it off" I explained that I have lots of EOA notices here, and not one has that message until the ones last night, I also explained that others on this board had found the same thing.
I was told to download Selling Manager, and I might be able to edit the message through that. I downloaded it, went to the edit part, and found that it was exactly the message that has always been on my invoices, so what am I supposed to edit? We will see what happens, I hope other people complain about it.

I'm still sending invoices manually, I haven't heard or seen anything like this - every day I sign on to Ebay and wonder what are they going to do to us next. I can't stand this anymore.

How can they say it has always been like this...and while we are at it, I do not need them to tell me when I promised to ship the item. I think that we operate far more efficient businesses than eBay does themselves.

This is a copy of an EOA Notice that I received on March 5th. Note it says I can send an Invoice.

"Congratulations! Your item just sold. You agreed to ship this item to the buyer within 2 business days after receiving cleared payment. You can send an invoice to the buyer as a reminder to pay for this item."

This is a copy from one that closed last night!

"Congratulations! Your item just sold. An invoice to the buyer has automatically been sent by eBay on your behalf. You agreed to ship this item to the buyer within 2 business days after receiving cleared payment."

I am so steaming mad about this. We are going away on April 1st for a month and I am going to seriously re-think what the heck I am doing staying with eBay.

Yes, that is exactly the difference I noticed in notification. I still send invoices and have not had a complaint yet. How is eBay going to handle it when a multiple buyer pays each one from their invoice and then expects us to ship them together? I hope they don't take it upon theirselves to compute the shipping discount! I do that in my invoices depending upon the weight as I am sure most everyone else does.

Well, I finally received a reply from Customer Service: Below that is my reply to them for all the good it will do!

"Hello,

Thank you for writing to eBay. My name is Cindy and I appreciate the
chance to assist you.

I'm sorry to learn about the troubles you are having with invoicing your
buyers. I'd like to clarify that eBay does not automatically send
invoices on your behalf. However, when a buyer wins your item, they will
receive the winning notification email which they can just send the
payment through. The only way to NOT have your buyers receive the
winning notification email is that the buyer changes his/her
Notification Preferences setting.

That being said, the best course of action would be to set up the
combined shipping rules in your Site Preferences. To do so, please sign
in to your My eBay, click on "Site Preferences" link at the left hand
side, on "show" to the right of "Shipping preferences" and then click on
"Edit". You'll be able to set up the combined shipping discounts from
there.

Alternatively, you may consider to include a message to inform your
buyers that please wait for your invoice after winning your items in the
"Payment details" section.

I hope I was able to assist you today. If you would like further
assistance please feel free to reply back to this email, or if you would
like immediate help, please feel free to visit our Live Help service.
Our Live Help representative will be happy to address your questions and
concerns.

To contact Live Help, click on the "Live Help" button at right-hand side
of the eBay home page. It is available from 7:00am to 8:00pm PDT every
day, 7 days a week.

Kind Regards,

Cindy C.

My Reply:

Hi Cindy,

Well, I guess this is something else that they have changed and forgotten to tell the Customer Service Reps!
"I'd like to clarify that eBay does not automatically send invoices on your behalf."

Yes, they do and it started around March 7th. Below you will see the two examples and the change that has taken place. There are other Sellers upset by this and they are posting on the discussion Boards of eBay and the 3rd Party listing Companies.

1. This is from an End of Auction Notice received by us on February 28th. Please note the portion that I have highlited and underlined.

Congratulations! Your item just sold. You agreed to ship this item to the buyer within 2 business days after receiving cleared payment. You can send an invoice to the buyer as a reminder to pay for this item.

2. This is from an End of Auction Notice received by us yesterday March 11th please note the portion that I have underlined.

Congratulations! Your item just sold. An invoice to the buyer has automatically been sent by eBay on your behalf. You agreed to ship this item to the buyer within 2 business days after receiving cleared payment.

I cannot set up the combined shipping rules as I live in Canada and use Canada Post and the system that we use has worked very well for us since November 2002 until now. I do have a note in my listings that if a buyer is buying more than one item then to await an Invoice from us however we all know that Buyers do not read and therefore I have had Buyers upset because they will buy two or three items and then they receive the Invoice from eBay and think we don't combine shipping.

This is so totally wrong and one more case where eBay is interfering in what we do. I would like to think that this was set up in error and that it will stop forthwith.

Penny

PS. In my few experiences with Live Help they are not able to help with anything....sorry.

After I sent my last note they wrote back and basically told me I was not 'telling the truth' and asked for Item Numbers on which I had received that wording. I sent two examples and had not heard a word since.

Tonight reading Seller central I found the following on one of the 'Ask Griff' threads: I feel somewhat vindicated!

Incorrect Text

When my item has been sold, eBay sends me a message and the language in that message has just recently (last week) been changed to:

"Congratulations! Your item just sold. An invoice to the buyer has automatically been sent by eBay on your behalf."

There is an entire discussion in Seller Central titled "Why did eBay automatically send out invoice to buyer?"--trying to figure out what the buyer is receiving, from whom, and when.

Does the buyer actually get an invoice automatically sent from eBay? Does this mean that if I send an invoice as well, that the buyer then gets two invoices? And what about combined shipping?

I asked the product team for a response. Here is what they sent:

From Griff

There was a project which launched on March 5th that modified this content without approval from the Communications Team and unfortunately the content was incorrect. [We] filed a P1 bug earlier this week and you will see the fix very soon.

It should be fixed, if not by now, during the week."

This move is nothing more than a power play to increase the number of paypal transactions so that they make more money from transaction charges - it has nothing to do with convenience or anything like that.
