I just got the following message from eBay
"We're writing to let you know that any recent bids by may have been placed by someone who was not authorized to use that account. We're currently restoring the account to its true owner and have canceled all recent bids.
The bids were removed on the following items:
As a result of the bid cancellation, there is a possibility that the current high bidder has changed. You can always view the current status of any item by going to the individual item page. (Please be sure to refresh or reload the page to view the most up-to-date information.)
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
eBay Customer Support"
As you see, it doesn't say who the recent bidder was, or which auction. I only have 4 core auctions running, only one with a bid, and that has not been cancelled.
The email used my full name and was in My Messages.

Yup, I just got that this afternoon. No indication of which auction, so I didn't bite. I did, however, look at bid history on the ones that have bids already, and there was nothing about a bid retraction. Phishing.

It appears that eBay choose to remove the bids for a bidding violation. My guess is someone playing around and bidding randomly on several auctions with no intention of paying. Once discovered Ebay removed the bids and banned the bidder. They can also choose not disclose the bidder's id or the auction numbers involved.

But no bids were cancelled, I only have one bid anyway. If it is phishing, then how come it is in My Messages? Plus, it uses my full name. Was yours the exact same message roadsmith?

Yes, my message had the exact wording as yours.

I had one almost the same but it showed an actual number of one of my auctions...but on the auction (which I typed in on the eBay page, no newbie clicker here!) did not have a retraction. Strange stuff.

I've gotten this too, and if I recall correctly, it was in my Ebay messages, so it came from Ebay. Never figured out what it was about though.

You won't see the bid at all. Not even in your bidding history. It will be as if the bid never happened at all.

The thing that I can't understand is that there should obviously be a userID after "by", and then there is a space for the particular auction. I sent it to spam@ebay, but haven't heard back. It doesn't seem possible that the same person has bid on auctions of several of the sellers on this board, if so, they have been VERY busy, we are only a small percentage of eBay sellers.
