I just don't get it. Last time I checked on shipping something it cost more to ship parcel post than it cost to ship Priority Mail. So why do so many eBay sellers say Parcel Post? And they really use it!

I rarely use parcel post, because it's generally slower than priority. But there are many instances when it's cheaper than priority.

Especially for oversized packages, cheaper than priority. I just sent one: 61.00 for priority, 22.00 parcel post.

may be it is safer to say they will ship parcel and when they go to print the shipping label, they find out it is cheaper to ship PRIORITY,so it is a pleasant surprise for the buyer!

I use it on larger items as well but I don't like it for breakable.
Also I find that UPS is less than PP most of the time.

Unless you have an account with UPS,it is not going to come to your home to pick up the package, while USPS may do so.
My carrier will come whether I have any USPS priority package or not!

Hwahwa: Not always true about pickups by UPS. I've called UPS in the past, given them the information about a package, and it's picked up here in our mountain village. Maybe it differs from town to town.

I don't insist on it, but I offer it - since the last postal increase, a 3 pound package from Maryland to California is $11.95 priority, $8.12 for parcel post - over a $3 difference - and that's just for a regular size package - use a 14 inch box and it would cost a whopping $38.60, which is ridiculous what customer would pay that without slamming your DSRs - meanwhile parcel post would still be just $8 - makes sense doesn't it?

Parcel post takes too long and if you have something breakable,it is better to ship priority, esp if it is from coast to coast!
I went to a mail drop off place in my neighborhood to return a package to a mail order house via UPS,return label included.
The guy wants to charge me $1.00!
