This feedback system sucks!!!

I have posted auctions a little less than last year, but with the new system, my buyers aren't leaving feedback as regularly as they used to. No incentive now.

I have one negative feedback in December for a terrible buyer. I believe she was scamming sellers. She bought some Fiesta coffee mugs from me. Nothing special. New from Kohls. She claimed a few broke. I didn't bother to ask for photos, as I was way too busy to deal with it, so I offered and sent her a partial refund. A month later, she still negged me with, "broken cups". I started researching her other feedback and found an interesting commonality with other negs. They were Fiesta and were broken. I contacted those sellers and found that she wanted partial to full refunds each time. Some asked for photos, and she never sent any. Then they got negged. I mentioned this in my feedback on her, as did several other sellers. She hasn't used the account since then. Ebay refused to do anything.

So, I get one negative from who I believe is a scammer. I don't get many feedbacks now, and my rating has sunk to 98.8% because of it. If it was based on my overall feedback I would be sitting at 99.9%.

I HATE EBAY!!!

I just did the math. 86/87 feedback = 98.85%. Where does eBay round up??? at whole numbers???

this new feedback system is very flawed, I sure hope they change it.

The calculation of the FB % is not new ... at least now the negatives drop off after a year instead of hanging on forever - everyone technically has a shot at 100%

Yes, the system stinks! I accidentally sent the wrong item to someone, but sent the right item that very day. It was too late to get the wrong one back so I emailed her and sent her postage (+ a bit extra) to mail the necklace back to me. She said she'd be happy to, but she never did. She won't answer my emails about it. She stole the necklace and eBay left me powerless to even leave appropriate feedback. The buyers know they can get away with the carp, so why wouldn't they go ahead and try?

There is some silver lining to feedback falling off after a year... but it still hurts when there is no incentive for bidders to leave feedback any more... or to leave negative feedback when it isn't necessarily warranted. when you get that one neg, it is difficult to make it up under the new system.

Not that it is a huge difference, but shouldn't an 98.85% be technically 98.9%???

I've been selling like mad to get this above 99% and I'm lucky if I get 2 of 10 to leave feedback. Some stuff is brand new brand name items in their sealed boxes. People just aren't leaving feedback.

Your FB number are about average during the 6-7 years I sold on a semi-regular basis I averaged 2-3 fbs to every 10 or so sales. Took around 50 sales before I got FB one. Then I changed usernames 3 times and had to start over. I ran a separate account that tracked stuff I bought FB's from sellers were more like 5-7 out 10!
99.9% of your customers are happy don't let one who isn't spoil even one second of your day!

I've notice a drop in FB left as well.
I think people just don't care anymore as it means so little.
When I get an offer - I don't even look at the buyer FB but I do check what they have left for others.

Ok this isn't about FB - a cartoonist on the Power Seller board posted it and I thought it was cute (hr says it is royalty free and anyone is welcome to use it):

After 365 days, negative feedback disappears from the feedback percentage, which I consider an insult to good sellers who spent years keeping near perfect feedback.

What a fabulous cartoon. It really spells it out for the buyer far better than anything we could put in words.

It also plays to the fact that the Buyer's don't read but a cartoon may just get their attention!

Not true though about leaving no DSR's. Its a common misconception that if you leave no DSRs it counts as nothing. I bought something from someone. I knew what the item was, but they had it totally misidenditified. Way off course. I was having trouble deciding what to do. I did not want to hurt their DSRs since I knew exactly what I was buying, but also didn't want to say they described their item perfectly when they were so far off. I decided to leave 5 stars for communication, shipping time and shipping cost and just didn't rate them for description. After leaving my feedback, I was stunned to see their perfect 5 star rating dropped to 4.9 on as described. They did not have many DSRs so that one case where I did not leave DSRs for as described counted as a 0 and lowered their rating.
A little known secret of ebay.

So if you either leave DSR's or don't leave any at all it is better, because if you leave some and then leave one or more blank it is not good for the seller.

pmelcher - wow!I didn't know this - that might explain why people who offer FREE shipping have less than perfect shipping cost DSR's - buyers think that shipping cost does not apply so leave the rating blank!

I guess there are some big seller changes that are going to be announced next week effective in September.

My word, I didn't know that either!

We are still in the process of moving so I have my Store on Vacation hold.
I am using our Laptop to check in on things and am anxious to see what the big Announcement is next week.

It may just change my future plans! I hope not!

I don't think it's correct, I think leaving stars blank is just that. I had perfect stars, but the number was different for one category, indicating that it had been left blank probably. I'd love to find out if blank stars are bad stars! I'd ask Ebay customer service, but they usually don't know or they're wrong.

According to the Ebay help page "Five stars is the highest rating, and one star is the lowest." So 0 stars shouldn't count - but this is Ebay were talking about here...

I too had falling feedback, it's depressing - but most people aren't listing as much this year and are going through the same thing - so don't feel bad.

two more positives and it is the same... 98.86 now transaltes to 98.8.

Do you think if I owed $98.866 to ebay, they would round it up to $98.87 or would they use the same math and have me pay $98.86? Just making my point.

shagmidmod, is there now a delay in FB change like there is in DSR's? Seems like I recall something about that a while back.
