A place where most or all of us have been. I've been there the last couple of weeks. Picked up a nasty bug and had to have a lot of the system reconfigured. Anyway, it seems to be working now. I'm still testing it out using Firefox first on various websites, then I'll move on using IE on various sites.
.

So, as I say, everything appears fine using firefox....EXCEPT for when I go to Ebay. Then the computer freezes. I believe that I've seen this issue discussed on these boards before. Does anyone know how to adjust my settings so that Ebay doesn't cause computer freeze? Thanks in advance.

I would like to know the answer too!
Every time I go to Paypal,my computer freezes.
But then I am not sure if it is a bug or just AOL? or certain time of the day ??

I get this too if I'm doing a lot of research on ebay.
Maybe something to do with the cookies.

I had similar problems with mozilla too. So i made sure i had my IE link available. Then completely deleted mozilla firefox from my computer. Make sure you get every single file. Then use IE to download the latest copy OF FIREFOX fresh off the net. My problem was solved. Still dont know what was wrong. But i managed to delete and remove the problem. I use firefox all the time.

I have a Mac and use Firefox and never have a problem with "freezing."

See Mac commercial.

It's Mac, not MAC. Nasty bug? I personally get those sometimes, but my Mac doesn't.

Hello,

We'd need a lot more information to get an idea of what the real cause might be. Given how the issue started out, I wouldn't jump to assume that any issues your having simply on eBay with FireFox can be so easily isolated to either. There isn't anything in FireFox or eBay by themselves that would cause the computer to actually lock up - assuming that means you have to hard restart it with the power button to get it to shut off when this happens?

"had to have a lot of the system reconfigured" - did you wipe it clean and reload windows, or run some utilities to clean up the registry/etc?

If your still running FireFox version 3.0, go and download the latest version 3.5 and see where that gets you next.

After that, id revisit your startup list of programs in the msconfig panel and kill everything you find here and restart - then see if it persists. It's more likely there is either a Windows system error or a 3rd party program causing the error your seeing and not specifically eBay or FireFox.

Running yet another browser like Google's Chrome might also help narrow things down (if the issue happens there also on a fresh install you'll know to continue checking Windows and other apps.)

The best way to deal with it though, and unfortunately, especially if you had a 'nasty bug' is to just back everything up - reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows from scratch. If you don't have your CD anymore you could also download a copy of the trial Windows 7 - that will get you through till May or so of next year before you have to pay to keep using.

Chris

hwahwa - if your ever running into an issue and wondering if it could be related to AOL - the answer is almost always 'YES'.

Seriously though you just need probably upgrade your copy of Internet Explorer (looks like you may still be on V6.0) - or if your using the AOL branded browser in AOL9.1, bypass that and launch your browser directly once your connected (if your on dialup) and see if the problem persists.

Chris

I had the same problems then switched to Linux. No need to spend all that $$ on a Mac when Linux is free and easy.

It could be almost anything. I've learned to look at everything on the computer. For an entire day I was getting the blue screen of death on my PC running XP. I finally isolated it to a bad copy of an updated MS Media Player. I uninstalled the program and went back to version 10 and now all is well. Sometimes MS is its own worst enemy.

It's maddening! I do recommend either Tune Up Utilities or WinUtilities, both offer 30 day trials. I love TU better than WU.
