Just curious, but how long are you waiting for payment?

It seems that more and more bidders are waiting to pay for their items further and further away from the end of auction day.

If you don't hear from a bidder:

How long do you wait to file the dispute after the auction ended?

How long do you wait to offer it to the 2nd highest bidder?

How long do you wait to close the dispute after you opened it?

For repeat, long time good customers, I've waited far beyond the time to get my fees back. My best customer didn't pay for his last purchase of $160, which I had to eat the fees for. With 2000+ feedback, he went NARU. I was more concerned for him than for my fees. Last week, I listed a card I knew he couldn't resist - he bought it under another ID- still hasn't paid - this time I'll file Unpaid Buyer fees at the first opportunity.

With the new feedback system it is difficult to tell how serious a bidder is. I have a bidder who bid $267 on something 9 days ago and I haven't heard from him. I have sent 2 invoices, emailed him a few days ago, and even filed a dispute. All it takes is an email to let me know... but nothing. If I offer it to the 2nd highest bidder can he leave feedback still?

The irony in all of this is that I have two accounts, one of which I use for more collectible items that average $100. Normally, these bidders don't give me problems. My other account sells items that attracts younger people, who are more likely to flake on payment. Over the last 30 days I have had more problems with the collectibles than the other. Go figure. Maybe my collectibles bidders are so wealthy that they are on vacation.

The new system allows you to file for fees after just 5 days. I usually send NPB a reminder on day 5 and file for fees on day 7 unless it is a repeat customer. My payment reminder says " You are the winning buyer for "xxxx". We appreciate your order and want to get it to you as soon as possible but your payment for this item hasn't been received yet.

If you haven't sent payment, please follow the instructions below."

Used to let payments slide for up to 2 weeks but I have NEVER has someone write me after a reminder and say "Sorry, I forgot to pay, payment is on the way".

Occasionally a buyer will pay after I have filed for a fee refund but not very often.

To anwer your questions:

How long do you wait to file the dispute after the auction ended? usually 7 days

How long do you wait to offer it to the 2nd highest bidder? 10 days

How long do you wait to close the dispute after you opened it? as soon as possible

On or after the 7th day, I sent an email as follows:
Do you need more time to pay?
Thanks

If no payment has been made in 2 or 3 days, I file.

I close it as soon as I can.

On the third day of no response or payment, I email a "friendly" courtesy reminder. Still no response, I file for fees at 7 days or as soon as possible. Folks are going to pay or they're not, no matter what you do.

My friendly reminder usually gets good results because many thought they had paid or it just slipped their minds. It happens.

I never send terse or nasty emails, not worth it - let eBay deliver the npb stuff.
