I bot this at an estate sale in Miami, maybe 15 yrs ago. The figures are a bit raised. Anybody know anything about it? With the frame it measures 33" X 28"

It could be ancient Middle East warrior,not Japanese ,the clues are the facial feature and the arrows he carried and the horse.
What is that 3 prongs sticking out of the horse head and the dress he is wearing?

When I bot it from this elderly lady, as I recall she said she had it made in China when she visited there. Also I think he is wearing pants but that is a weapon and maybe a shield hanging from his belt. Those 3 things on the horses mane may be just the way they decorated it pulling the mane into tuffs. Tartar comes to mind and maybe he is a Mongol. Got to research some more. tnx all

I checked out some Greek warriors and your fella looks nothing like them at all and their horses were also bare naked with no saddles!

I believe this is a rubbing. They would take special paper and rub out the design from a plate or etching. I have only seen this from the UK- England, Scotland... but I am sure rubbings were popular elsewhere. They normally depict royalty or knights, etc.

They do that in Cambodia and Thailand too with the buddha images.
