I bot this at an estate sale in Miami, maybe 15 yrs ago. The figures are a bit raised. Anybody know anything about it? With the frame it measures 33" X 28"

I'd say Japanese, but what do I know? I love it, though. Hwahwa will probably know better!

It could be ancient Middle East warrior, not Japanese ,the clues are the facial feature and the arrows he carried and the horse.
What is that 3 prongs sticking out of the horse head and the dress he is wearing?

When I bot it from this elderly lady, as I recall she said she had it made in China when she visited there. Also I think he is wearing pants but that is a weapon and maybe a shield hanging from his belt. Those 3 things on the horses mane may be just the way they decorated it pulling the mane into tuffs. Tartar comes to mind and maybe he is a Mongol. Got to research some more. tnx all

I checked out some Greek warriors and your fella looks nothing like them at all and their horses were also bare naked with no saddles!

Do let us know. I just love the research part of what we do!

I believe this is a rubbing. They would take special paper and rub out the design from a plate or etching. I have only seen this from the UK- England, Scotland... but I am sure rubbings were popular elsewhere. They normally depict royalty or knights, etc.
