Hi everyone, I have this chinese parure set....necklace ,earring and ring thats marked China silver on back. My question is do these carved beads have a formal name ? Maybe ojime bead ? They look like little buddas carved into everyone of them.

Hi Stop,
I'm sorry ,was calling it a bead because of the necklace. Material looks like a hard ,high glossed wood and sounds like marbles when you rub them together if that helps any. Heres a picture of them all together.

OK found these on a yahoo search. They are just like mine but a much better picture They just said seed carved beads but at least I have a time frame of when they were made. I knew they were vintage but didn't know 1930's .

The Chinese do use pit of peach and olive and carve them, and apply lacquer over it.
but wood is wood and does not make sound like marble, esp if they have been around 80 years.also wood is light and float on water.
see if they are resin coming out of a mold.

Thank you for your kindness.
My mother has a stroke and has been in hospital for more than 4 months now,she cant talk,or walk and has a feeding tube thru her nose and they have to monitor her diet so she can pass 'you know what' like squeezing toothpaste.
But her condition today is much better than 4 months ago and doc think give her 6 more weeks and may be she can leave.
she wants to rip off the feeding tube taped to her nose so the nurse has to stop her. how can I communicate to her if she will only open her mouth and swallow that mushy stuff,we dont need that feeding tube,so far she refused to open her mouth to swallow water.
My father was hospitalised for lung infection,it could be aspiration pneumonia due to esophageal stricture, food particle just cannot make its way through the esophagus,he just came home a few hours ago,he is also on feeding tube.
I spent 10 weeks with them in 2008 and we have dinner together every nite and there was never any problem swallowing.
I dont have the resources to prove this but they have been taking Fosamax for 17 months and it is listed as one of the medication which could cause esophageal stricture along with ascorbic acid, dilantin, tetracyline etc.
I know Fosamax caused a problem with the jaw and in fact there is a lawsuit now ,but there are also complaints of problem in swallowing with some Fosamax users.
So if you know some one who is considering FOSAMAX ,make sure he does some reading first,it seems the side effects are not reversible.
Docs said my parents are old,but getting stricture on both ends,is that normal aging?

Oh Stop,
I am so sorry. What an emotional nightmare for you and your family. I do know first hand whats it like for a stroke victim. My grandfather had one. He lived 10 more years, was paralyzed down one side and his speech was only mumbles but his mind was strong ...just trapped and he knew what was going on around him.Talk to your mom just like its just another day, she understands. The stroke has just cut off the path in her mind that shows she understands.Sometimes the mind can heal and get around that.Make time everyday for yourself so you'll have the strength to keep helping her back. Go for a short walk in a garden or whatever makes you feel at ease.If there is someone else around to help, take whatever they have to offer. Don't try to do everything yourself.
As far as the drugs causing all the problems ,it just makes you angry. I'll never understand how they allow drugs that cause these kind of problem on the market. As they say "Money is the root of all evil" and thats the only reason meds like this are available.

Sorry I missed this. My best friends mother passed away and I've been trying to help her out. She was 89 and led a very good life. Toward the end she was bedridden and Patty was a 24/7 caregiver for her.
hwahwa - I'm sorry to hear about your mother! I'll add her to my prayers.
toasted - I love the set! It's beautiful. Are you sure it's not carnelian? It looks a lot oranger than the other set. If it's really lightweight, it could be seed. You'd need a closer photo. I'd love to have this set. I'm sure it will do well!
