Is there something in the air?? I've posted here twice in 10 days about bid retractions. Have never had cancel issues before.
This has me a little confused. Bidder jumped right on widget's opening bid within a few hours of auction start. Has sat there the whole week. Auction ends tomorrow. Last eve I got a note simply saying "I want to cancel my bid. Thank you." I responded that I was sorry to hear that but that she was free to do so. We're half way through the next day and she still hasn't done it. DH says he interprets the way she said it as she may think the bidder makes it known and the seller does the cancel. Per her FB# she isn't a newbie. What to do??

I agree. It's not your responsibility to cancel the bid. It's theirs. However, you do put yourself at risk for a negative and low DSRs because as a winner, she'll be able to do that. If it were me, I'd cancel her bid just to save myself grief later on.

I agree with Cheryl on this one. Cancel her bid and block her.
I had someone make an offer a few days ago which I accepted. About an hour later - I got an email from them saying they wish I had not accepted their offer??? WHAT - then they emailed saying they didn't want the item.
I can see getting caught up in bidding but getting caught up in offering????

It's done. I had a really bad feeling about this one, so I did cancel the bid, stated the reason as bidder's request and then blocked her. Thanks for your time and advice.

Just to clarify Cheryl's comment about negative feedback. Unless I do not understand the new rules, the buyer can not leave feedback on a transaction until they pay for the item. If the transaction is cancelled, any feedback left is supposed to be automatically removed by ebay.
