Here I am checking in with my tail between my legs and my head hanging low to the ground!

Blue colour does not necessarily guarantee that a Netbook will work better! ( I hope you can hear the tone of my voice here or all is for naught).

One week after getting my purty BLUE Acer Aspire it up and died...gone...poof! Luckily I had only used it for a total of about 1.5 hours as I had a busy week so I had nothing saved in it at all.

My DH tried not to smile when he told me that it was totally beyond him and I had better take it back.
When the fellows at Best Buy saw me come in they remembered me ( I'm not surprised after my antics there when I wanted a Blue one)and were great.
I explained the problem and one of them immediately got on his computer to check for stock and after having a young man go up and down ladders he told me (he was also trying not to smile) that he was very sorry but they had no blue, no red and no white so would I please take a black one.
I hinted that a cute little new BLUE mouse would make me feel better but I guess that was pushing it a bit!

It is working fine and I am so pleased but have a question for anyone who has one...Is there an adjustment for the Screen brightness? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Cute story.

I had the same problem with my IBM Thinkpad screen so I googled it. For me it was hit the Fn key and the home key. I'm sure it will be different for yours.

On the Acer Aspire it is Fn Right Arrow (in the lower right-hand corner of the keyboard). My little blue guy is ticking merrily along.

And now for something completely different...

When Google started indexing tweets, I finally had to sign up for Twitter. We're giving away one $5 Amazon gift card every day to a random follower, starting March 7. You can follow JCEarrings here.

I shall follow your JCEarrings on Twitter.

I signed up for it a few months ago and started to 'follow' a few people but I am not a very good stalker as I haven't looked at it for weeks!

Congrats on your netbook purchase. Since your blue/red/white did not work out, you could opt to decorate your black [g]

Is it really necessary to pay the extra $69.95 to have the netbook 'tweaked' by the geek squad. I have found a good deal on a netbook at Best Buy but hate to spend that extra money on a $299.00 machine. Thoughts please and thank you in advance for the help. Pat

What kind of tweaking are they going to do for you for $69??

I said no to the extras because a machine this cheap is pretty much a consumable throw away. It has a warrantee that should cover it long enough that by the time you need to replace or repair you will probably be able to find them on ebay for $100 or less.

Do use part of the $69 to buy a padded carry case. I have already "popped a pixel" by carrying my in my purse without a padded case. Was not thinking about how fragile those LED screens are. No biggie but probably something that could have been avoided had I used a case.

I didn't have mine tweaked either and I didn't take the Extended Warranty.
I found it very easy to set up on my own and then DH de-crappified it for me. I could probably have done that myself too but prefer not to tinker.

I did buy a carrying case for it and made sure I bought one with a carrying handle as I felt that the covers that slip over them would be likely to slip right out of my hands.

I think that decorating the case might be a wonderful idea.

Now I feel all set for my month in Oregon in April and I won't have to share DH's laptop.

Lt. Ray...oh my!
I just looked at the site you posted above!

So many choices and you can even have your name added to the skin!

Well I got a great buy, I think, an Asus Eee PC net book with 1 g memory and 160 g hard drive and Windows XP (which I am familiar with) wifi capability, web cam and a little red padded case with handles for a total of $267.00. I went out for a margarita lunch with friends so I am not quite ready to break it out of the box, but I think I will be pleased. Thank you for all the input, it was helpful. Alas, the sale model only came in black, but thanks to the website provided, I can fix that!!

My wife has an Asus, but hers has some version of Win7. Pretty nice the few times I've used it, but the keyboard is too small for my gnarly old hands. Don't much like the trackpad either. She's happy with it though, so life is good. Seems well made. Asus made all my Apple laptops under contract, so I know their quality control is good.

Pat..sounds like you got a super buy.

I think you will have fun although it sounds like you had a fun lunch too!

My hands are old but not too gnarly and I dislike the trackpad so I am using a mouse. I didn't know it was called that, I have called it a pretend mouse thingy up to this point!

pmelcher,

The tweaking is a scam. I wish I still had the link but you can probably find the story on Google.

Tony.

Thank you Tony, I passed on that, I was pretty sure it was all for show because it seems to only take 15 minutes to do all that stuff, I have watched other people wait for theirs to be tweaked. I am charging the computer now and getting almost brave enough to turn it on. It does have a dark blue cover, the sale model was supposed to be black so I got yet another bonus. DH has decided it is too small for him to even try to use but I think if he tried it he would be surprised.
