Just like eBay loves to call us sellers to market their latest rate hike, eBay should be calling buyers regarding non payment notices in order to educate them regarding the importance of paying for their items. If a newbie goes on a bidding spree, a call should be generated to make sure they know what they are doing.

This accomplishes a few things.

1) Helps eBay determine whether the bidder is real and provided accurate contact information. They can easily determine if the bidder is a buyer or a flake.

2) Educates bidders what happens when they don't pay or when they get too far over their head in bidding.

3) Gives sellers some support in dealing with these problems instead of letting these idiots loose to wreak havoc on various auctions.

ebay should be policing these morons to prevent the skyrocketing trend. if ebay calls the bidder and can't get through, ebay should leave a message. if the bidder doesn't reply within 24 hours, ebay should suspend the bidders account until the bidder contacts ebay and discusses it with them.

i have a bidder who has been a newbie since Feb. they have bid on about 20 items and have 0 feeback. the total is over $1000 in bids. it is obvious they aren't serious. how many auctions does this person have to ruin before getting suspended???

ok, i guess i am eating crow on this one. normally, when i see a newbie with 20 transactions in a week they don't pay... but this one did. maybe i need to start my rant like this from now on. perhaps this is the jinx i need to get them to pay.

anyhow, i still stand on what i said previously... npb can be significantly decreased if ebay would follow up with newbies.

Glad your Buyer paid up.

I think your idea has a lot of merit. Credit Card Companies will call if a card shows some unusual trends in buying.

The unfortunate thing we are dealing with in this case it that the Customer Service Reps have absolutely no idea what is going on anyway (not their fault as they are not kept informed).
If they had a REAL Fraud Department like the CC Companies do then it would be terrific.

I have to agree with you.

I have a bidder who just signed up and bid on my diamond ring, she has 0 fb and I don't feel she is serious. So now I can't do anything with the ring until after filing for my fees and waiting it out for a total of 7days.

This is totally ridicules, it's unfair to a seller.

I'm very tempted to relist this as soon as I file for my fees, I keep thinking it's another seller of similar items that wants my item out of the way for a week.

I am thinking of putting something into my auction that states if you have lower then 10 feedback to please contact me for approval before you bid. This is not the first time this is happening plus we don't get back our listing fee.

Many Ebayers use one ID for selling and another one for bidding,so zero feedback does not mean this bidder is a newbie.
But Ebay should call the deadbeats and let them know bidding is a contract, not a game.
Better,Ebay should charge their credit card as soon as auction closes,if shipping is predetermined.
AMZN,YAHOO and other websites, you dont place an order without getting your credit card charged,so why not Ebay?

In the past week I have had 4 NPB, and only 15 sales. I think some buyers just think it is a game to pass the time, like Tetris.
