Hi, all: I have an old army canteen and a folding shovel in a cloth case. Is "folding shovel" the best wording? Or is there another word that veterans and collectors would recognize? ~Adele

Compare your shovel to those listed as Trench Shovel. Most are fairly common but there are a few rare ones. the key to the best price is determining how old your's is and if it has something that makes it special such a limited issue or special use.

You can often tell if they were used in combat by the sharped edge of the shovel blade. They made a great weapon according to grandad when he was in the trenches fighting the Hun and Turks in WW1.
