I believe it is 1978. I remember those packs from that era. I know 78 was the first year I started collecting cards and I vividly remember the catcher on the pack of cards. It is either 78 or 79, but I am pretty sure it is 78. I will check.

do i get a pack for knowing that??? lol. i should buy a pack just for memories sake. there are some good cards in there. I grew up in Michigan, and 78 has some great Tiger rookie cards including Jack Morris, Lance Parrish, Alan Trammell, Lou Whitaker. It also has some great Hall of Fame Rookies such as Eddie Murray and Paul Molitor.

Thanks, shag...you hit a home run on this and I appreciate it! I'd offer you a pack if I had a spare but the box is already missing one of the packs so I best keep what I've got and save them all for the auction. I do appreciate your help...and good luck on capturing your memories again!

i was joking about the pack, though if you put single packs up, i may bid on one of them. every now and then i buy a pack of old cards.

i used to be a Sports Card and Memorabilia show promoter in Florida. i got out of the business after i started to see the market being flooded with each company producing up to 10 sets of cards for each sport each year. every few weeks the newest "hot" set would come out. and when the next set came out, the previous "hot" set would be dead in the water.

the sports card market has really suffered because of the corporate greed... and thanks to eBay you can find just about any card at any time. The price guides are worthless. Prices are often overinflated (my guess is that these people often have stock in certain cards). Now the big deal is to have your cards appraised and sealed up in hard plastic. Only those with the highest condition appraisal are sought after.

guess who does some of the appraisals??? the price guide company!

i have considered getting back to sports collectibles and show promoting. i enjoy older items, and wouldn't even mess with the cards any longer.

I debated the grade/not grade quandry with some of the hundreds of cards I'm selling. As a novice, it seemed that only the cards graded 9 or above (for recent cards) did well. I did send in 16 cards to PSA and will put them on in the coming weeks so we'll see if the investment was worth it. A few of my older ungraded cards did quite well so we'll see. I am having lots of fun researching these cards and know lots more about MLB cards and players than I ever did before...one of the positive side-effects of selling on eBay!

1978 for sure - I was really into collecting back then (10) and would go to stores and newspaper stands buying packs of cards. Don't eat the gum lol

I opened hundreds and hundreds of those packs. I can still taste the gum.

I'm putting this box on auction tomorrow. The cards should be great BUT I don't think I would recommend chewing the gum anymore! Glad you have some great memories!
