I actually got a call from eBay this morning from their Outreach Team to inform me of the upcoming changes. I am a Top Rated Seller but small potatoes so I was interested in the call. She offered me a one hour phone consultation with someone from their Seller Development Team about my listings and how to 'ramp up' my sales. This should be interesting, have any of you gone through the consult? My appointment is in the first week of June.

Take notes and tell us about it. I'm really interested to hear what their suggestions are.

One thing for sure any advice you are given will be in eBays favor. Just for grins ask the person on the phone what sort of selling or business experience they have. Chances are it will be someone with a cheery voice, more than likely female, reading stuff off a computer screen.

I decline their consultations. I have found that when I have indulged them, it was a waste of time, I knew more than they did about Ebay and how to RAMP up my business.

When I first started selling on eBay, I had a consultation with a really sharp guy who gave me a few useful tips I hadn't even heard from Neglus, already a veteran. Every call since then has been from a contracted-out call center in Utah whose sole purpose has been to receive consent to send an email outlining upcoming changes. I finally blocked the number.

i just got my call today. normally, I decline going through the hoops of these calls, but today I decided to listen a bit closer. Great NEWS, blah blah blah.

The first thing I realized is that eBay is now adding condition features to listings. This seems great on the surface, but it occurred to me that this just makes it even easier for a buyer to file an Item Not As Described claim.

Example: We list item as Excellent condition. Buyer receives item and believes it is good condition, not excellent. Buyer submits INAD dispute. We lose our money. The end.

She kept telling me all about these upcoming changes that are meant to reduce INADs, and all it did was make me more concerned about eBay screwing over sellers. eBay is becoming an online outlet store in the manner of CompUSA.com or DirectTiger.com or Buy.com.

I learned a long time ago,you can learn something if you take time to listen when others speak. You can learn from scholars, genius, highly educated, ordinary or those that can barely read.
Listening and sorting out what is refuge and what is of value, has helped me, throughout my life.

I accepted the consultation.

You just never know. If you get just one thing out of it that's useful then its worth the hour.

My voice mail got the call today - message said blah-blah etc etc...your category will have item condition ... Huh? I only see "new" or "used" on the eBay listing form... what is an unused postcard from 1907 ... NEW??? If I use "new" will buyer think repro?? This is useless!

according to the woman i spoke with, collectibles will not be affected by the condition updates.

she claims that "antiques" cannot be new. I laughed at that comment. I told her how often we find that hidden treasure from the 1950's still sealed up in the original box, never opened. She said I should add to the description, "antique, never opened".

I sell craft books, and I have the same problem with description. They can be 50, 60 plus years old, and just like new, obviously unused, but my only option is new or used. They are neither. I have to put "used", even though they are not. It does say the decription is condition, but can I still say they are "new"?

How about 'like new'?
You never know someone will find fault with anything which is not new new!

as i said... this is only going to cause further headaches for sellers. can you imagine filtering searches for "excellent" or "good" etc.

The problem with all of the additions is that it makes it just that much easier for sellers to forget one more thing... setting us up for Item Not As Described.

We are not robots, though eBay would like us to be.

I'd be interested in what they have to say as well. Keep us posted.
Just look at any category for sold items and you won't find much. If they can tell us how to fix that - that would be great.

hwahwa: "like new" is a no-no on eBay, they will close the listing, you can't say "like" anything.

Well, eBay did NOT call on the scheduled day, guess I did not really expect it but I did stay home by the phone all morning.

I would give them 1 STAR for Communication and send them a threatening letter telling them you will have to downgrade them!

They really have some nerve. It's too bad that the Stockholders don't know about all the 'behind-the-scenes' BS that we put up with and what a total dud the Company has become!
