This is the new list of conditions. eBay will not only include the title condition, but the description of each in the listings. I just discovered this on something I relisted as New. Just wondering how much confusion this will cause for sellers, and how many new INAD disputes will be opened. According to eBay, this will keep INADs disputes down.
Condition
New
A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store, unless the item was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full details.
New other (see details)
A new, unused item with absolutely no signs of wear. The item may be missing the original packaging, or in the original packaging but not sealed. The item may be a factory second or a new, unused item with defects. See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.
Manufacturer refurbished
An item that has been professionally restored to working order by a manufacturer or manufacturer-approved vendor. This means the product has been inspected, cleaned, and repaired to meet manufacturer specifications and is in excellent condition. This item may or may not be in the original packaging. See the seller's listing for full details.
Seller refurbished
An item that has been restored to working order by the eBay seller or a third party not approved by the manufacturer. This means the item has been inspected, cleaned, and repaired to full working order and is in excellent condition. This item may or may not be in original packaging. See the seller's listing for full details.
Used
An item that has been used previously. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. This item may be a floor model or store return that has been used. See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.
For parts or not working
An item that does not function as intended and is not fully operational. This includes items that are defective in ways that render them difficult to use, items that require service or repair, or items missing essential components. See the seller's listing for full details.

So, if a new item in the box has a ding or cut in the box, is it new? The description says, "packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store"
How about used??? "The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended."
How many items have you bought that were used, and may have something not functioning on it. For example, a used car. Have you ever bought a used car with a broken radio, or knob, or blown out hydraulic door hinge? So, can that be listed as used or should it be parts/not working?
eBay will tell us to include that information in the description, but what happens when a buyer files an INAD because the eBay condition description slightly differs from the sellers condition description?

Again, sooooo many variables!! Looks like Ebay has again hired people from the IRS so they can make everything as confusing and complicated as possible.

This brings up again a question asked several months ago. If I have an item I purchased in 1964 that is unused and still in the original unopened packaging, is it new? Meets the eBay definition but, as I recall, the consensus on this board was that it should be described as "mint". Seems like the more eBay tries to "fix" things, the more confusion they cause.

collectibles are not affected by the changes. Something new/vintage should probably just have it described as "Vintage in Unopened/Sealed Box" or something that describes to the buyer what it is.
The biggest headache here is going to be the interpretation of condition. I had the very thing happen last year. A buyer received an item that I listed as "Excellent" condition. Though I described all wear, damage to it he argued about "excellent".
The problem is that terms like "excellent" "mint" etc are all subjective. I may think something is excellent, where another person may consider it mint, where another person may consider it good, where another person may consider it fair.
I think this just gives buyers another tool to file INAD claims... not help them better understand the condition of an item.

"collectibles are not affected by the changes". Au contraire Shag- imagine my surprise this morning when I tried to relist auction items through eBay's Sales Manager Pro and received a notice I had to add Condition to each item.

OK - I tried a second small batch - this time "fixed price" listings to relist, I got the same corrections needed page, I made no corrections but pressed the "continue" button. They relisted without error. This still discomforts me - it seems to be similar behavior 1 month in advance of eBay refusing to list or relist non-conforming listings and 3 months in advance of eBay shutting down non-conforming GTC listings. I don't think Vendio is on top of this.

pixia - I'm not using vendio any longer. I use GarageSale for Mac. It is a one time purchase software ($35) with no monthly or user fees.
Since the 1st of the year, I estimate it has saved me a $100-150 or so in Vendio listing/fvf fees.
I just don't list enough items to justify vendio any longer, especially with the declining sales. though eBay fees have increased, they have improved many features and included 12 free pics.

I think you are using SMME, while I am using SMIE. I just finished reading the directions for SMME, and can not locate any information regarding eBay item specifics. Can you?
Attributes and Item Specifics are the same thing. This is where you would see them, if they were available for your category (as discussed in the other thread):
For category (63808 --Collectibles>Postcards->Art) - it DOES has the new ConditionID field enabled and this field is available at eBay when creating an item from there. At his moment this field is enabled, but *not* required. We are however currently working on adding the support for this ConditionID field (for this and a number of categories.)
