IMHO, eBay is in shock over the chaos of putting stores in core. Veteran eBay buyers, those that check eBay daily for newly listed items, are leaving in disgust because newly listed BIN (priced much more reasonably than auctions) are lumped together with store listings, some are over 5 years old! My auction listings are competing with BIN and get only a few hours of top exposure in eBay search. This unprecedented free listings week tells me eBay is really in trouble. I expect a quick back-pedal in the near future that will separate older BIN items.

pixiamom - I think you summed up pretty well.

Ebay has to be hurting if nobody is selling anything or at least not selling much.

Unfortunately I don't see how free auction listings will help. I've been doing more auction style listing in the last two week than I have in years - just in order to try to make some money and nothing was working. I listed lower cost items, I listed high cost items, I listed middle of the road and yet it was still like I wasn't there. Low views - low watchers - NO SALES.

I read more about it and it is for only 100 listings "in addition to the 100 free listings priced at 99 cents or lower" It also does not include store owners, so it is only for people who do not have a store of any kind. I do qualify and have 35 ready to launch.

Sales will be even lower! A lot of people will be listing junk for free, in addition to the 99 cent items, and the listings will be flooded. I don't understand why those of us who are paying high costs for stores, don't get a break and have free listings?

Store owners who have non store ID can list for free using his non store ID.
Ebay does not need more listings,Ebay needs more biddings/buying.

eBay has figured out a way to make money no matter what happens...

listing fees. they can clean house on billions of listings with no sales.

problem is, this is a short term strategy that is dooming eBay for the long term.

on sunday, i switched my fixed price to auction because i wasn't getting any sales or offers on fixed. i rebuilt my listings, spent a good 6 hours doing so... still NO BIDS, NO SALES.

apparently, the only way to sell stuff is to give it away... 99 cents and even then many people won't buy b/c at 99 cents it costs $5 to ship it.

Shag - my auction Sell Through Rate has plummeted - just like it did last time Stores were in Search. You would think with 11,500 store listings that have been hidden until the "Stores In Search" was instituted, I would have phenomenal sales, but sales are still behind last year (2009 was behind 2008 which was behind 2007 which was behind 2006..).hmmm! ever since they have been fiddling with search my sales have been steadily going down...no way am I paying to list auctions while the market is flooded with crap driving whatever buyers are left to finally quit the site. I mean really, if sales are lackluster because the site is flooded, does it really makes sense to flood it more with FREE LISTINGS???

WT****, why should store owners that pay their bills every month even when times are bad and when selling is in the toilet get left out of these promos?!?

Ebay you are nuts!! Now I have to compete with sellers that list sporadically. They get free listings, I pay through the nose.

The reality is that the summer dead zone grows each year. Now it starts 6 weeks before Memorial Day and 6 weeks after labor day.

i still can't believe I haven't sold anything this week on one of my accounts. Normally, I get some sales, or at least bids. Right now... NOTHING.

I do have to say that had I realized that this coming weekend was a holiday, I would not have listed anything to end for Sunday... my mistake and it is going to cost me listing those auctions.

Either way, I feel like eBay isn't working for sellers, they are working for themselves. When was the last time you saw an advertisement whether on television, newsprint, or a magazine for eBay? LAME!

heard from a friend that the first two listings through eBay showed free but the next two showed regular fees. His rep said a lot of people were complaining today but he did not have a 'fix' time and could not say if all ready launched auctions would be corrected. Of course since I use Vendio I won't know until later. Sigh, just another problem.
